SNAP: Food stamps could be cut off for Thanksgiving

Source: Examiner

SNAP, the supplemental nutrition assistance program, could be stopped, starting in November. This program provides food stamps to millions of people across the United States. According to an October 14 report by Fox News 13 in Salt Lake City, there may not be food stamps for Thanksgiving.

A letter from the U.S. Department of Agricultural was sent to the Crossroads Urban Center in Salt Lake City. The letter explained that the program may not be around in November. The letter was “directing states to hold their November issuance files and delay transmission to state electronic benefit transfer vendors until further notice.

Minimum wage is not a living wage - and it's what most of them earn. Rent, car, electricity, heat, water, groceries, more if you have children... yeah, I'm not the least bit surprised by this. The big boys like walmart screw their workers, but so do the big boys like burger king and mcdonalds.

Of course, it's going to get a whole lot worse if they stop food stamps. Worse as in soup kitchens overwhelmed, and hungry people getting ready to steal and/or become violent.

We all should start a week long strike ot protest this crap. Everybody stay home for a week and defy the slave overlords who pay us peanuts for our labors.

...this is not only unconscionable, it is ridiculously dangerous. There are millions and millions who depend on SNAP to survive. I certainly don't see them standing idly by while their kids and families begin to starve.

Our store is located in a very poor area of the city -- no EBT means we don't sell groceries.

So now the fuckers are hurting the disadvantaged AND small business owners.

... I'm sick from all the horrific things happening to all of us...

I don't receive EBT, but I do know people, children, and seniors who depend

on them.... I'm so sad..:'(

The only possible good I see from this is that Wal-Mart will loose

a massive chunk of money b/c of this. Most people on EBT shop

there for food. But as someone up thread said... they will loose

their small business b/c of this. I'm so sorry... Inflation is on its way big time

for us all..

That store gets a lot of money from food stamps.

I bet all the big chains across the country get a big share of profit from food stamps.

The holiday season is big buying time in stores.

The war on Christmas has begun.

I'm willing - the thing is, is that it would be a few of us doing it alone unless we advertised and got some kind of campaign going for it. The second thing is... I make about 150 a week, for medical reasons, I had to go part time. A week or two off from work, and I could lose my car, which would result in job loss because I have to commute - and already live with my parents again.

But I'm willing to make the sacrifices if I'm not standing alone.
