Reid, McConnell Restart Talks As House GOP Flames Out

Source: Talking Points Memo

Sahil Kapur – October 15, 2013, 7:32 PM EDT

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) restarted talks Tuesday evening on a deal to avert default, after House Republicans failed on multiple attempts to secure support for bill.

"Senator Reid and Senator McConnell have re-engaged in negotiations and are optimistic that an agreement is within reach," said Adam Jentleson, a spokesman for Reid.

"Given tonight's events, the Leaders have decided to work toward a solution that would reopen the government and prevent default," said Don Stewart, a spokesman for McConnell. "They are optimistic an agreement can be reached."

The two leaders had the makings of a deal before putting it on hold Tuesday in anticipation of possible House action.

This seems to be pretty straightforward. Bring a Clean CR to the floor for a vote. How many different ways can this be presented. Geez, this is getting tiresome.

I was thinking more along the lines of giving Obama an old Vette painted like a lizard, and reenacting the Euthanasia Day at the Geriatrics Hospital scene with Boehner, Ryan, Cantor, Cruz and both Pauls as the doctors Frankenstein runs over.

agreed to break earlier in the day just so Boehner could make an ass out of himself and have no choice but to accept the Senate bill.

They knew damn well that anything that placates the Tea Party would not have support of the Democrats, and vice versa. So, there was no compromise bill Boehner could float without it just being something that the Democrats want.

By allowing Boehner to make a fool out of himself, it greatly increased the likelihood he doesn't pull any crap after the Senate passes a bill.

They already have the sequester, and are absolutely loving it that the sequester puts Paul Ryan's budget plan into play, and nothing remotely like a Dem plan.

but apparently they will need to expedite the bill in order for it to pass in time, and a certain douchebag won't say whether he will block it or not. They need unanimous consent to expedite it, so one senator can block the whole thing temporarily at least, to force the country to default.

They're so inside their misinformation bubble that they know they can manipulate their 28% into believing it's the ACA which will bring markets crashing, another recession/depression, unemployment and skyrocketing interest rates.

But hold up a vote until things played out in the House. By not doing that time has been wasted.

My fear is that default is actually the political goal of those in control in the House. The next step will be impeachment while the country is in default. This is the thinking of a lunatic.

If they won't take any offer, why make concessions or negotiate further?

This seems like déjà vu all over again... The right never budges an inch, but at the end of the day the left has moved further to the right.
