N.J. GOPer: If My Rival Comes To Your Door, 'Get Your Gun'

Source: Talking Points Memo

A Republican candidate running for the New Jersey state Senate urged an group of gun rights activists earlier this month to get their guns if approached by his Democratic opponent.

The candidate, Atlantic County Sheriff Frank Balles, was discussing his Democratic opponent, state Sen. Jim Whelan, on Oct. 7 in front of the New Jersey Second Amendment Society.

"When someone's been elected for 30 years and he comes knocking on your door and tells you, 'Listen, this is what I want to do to help you,' quickly close your door, go inside," Balles said.

A member of the audience quickly interjected, "And get your gun!"

Balles's response:

"And get your gun, exactly!"

the audience member who said it first.

Because of LBN restrictions to four paragraphs of the story, I had to quote what Balles said in response to that audience member in the comments, but those were directly under the quote with the first four paragraphs from the article.

The title of the OP -- which is accurate -- is TPM's headline.

Its sad Im not shocked by this violent rhetoric anymore, its now the norm for republicans to sound like terrorist. Also I want to predict his campaign donations sky rocket because of this.

According to many polls, 50% of Democratic households own firearms.

And we know how to use them.

Being among the 50% you mention is probably the only reason I'm still alive to write this. I've outbluffed them so far, and it's questionable whether they hate or fear me more. When the House went GOP last midterm, our locals loaded a pickup truck with rifle and shotgun toting 'patriots', then paraded back and forth in front of my house hooting and hollering like a pack of mad dogs. But they know I'm armed and have the world's best alarm system - dogs - so they stick to intimidation for now. I went outside to greet them with a camera, waved, and joked, "Smile for the little birdie, boys!" That's when they left. But they're only in temporary hiding.

They know I'm from a longstanding military family and a crack shot (I call it a crackpot shot), and one of them thinks I'm an actual, real life WITCH because I once joked about the pins in his doll. Besides, like most of them, he's paranoid as a goose and not half as smart.
