Virginia election officials purging almost 40,000 voters

Source: Washington Post

The Virginia Board of Elections has purged more than 38,000 names from its voter rolls just weeks before Election Day, despite serious concerns from local election administrators that many of those voters are still eligible to cast a ballot.

The purge comes a few months after the board said it would use several databases to find voters who were now ineligible to vote, either because they had been convicted of a felony or moved out of state. But after the board sent an initial list of voters who would be purged to local election administrators, those administrators found what they said were hundreds of voters who shouldn’t be removed.

On Oct. 3, the state Democratic Party filed paperwork seeking an injunction to halt the purge. But on Tuesday, the Board of Elections said it had already nixed 38,870 names from voter rolls after county registrars reviewed the initial lists. . .

It's about all they've got now - disenfranchise certain voters (and we know who that will be). This will remain a major challenge going forward, and their latest sleazeball tactic.

They're not even subtle in their efforts to suppress the vote.

But anybody who thinks their teabagger base cares a whit about anyone else's rights, you're climbing for a fall.

Virginia and Maryland were 2 states severely impacted by the Federal Government shutdown since many DC Federal Employees may live in one of those 2 states.

I think you're going to see a big referendum vote in Virginia with a massive purging of GOP incumbents PLUS the governor seat going blue (it's an open seat). There are plenty of people in Virginia who have been without a job for 2+ weeks thanks to the GOP and they will remember that when they vote!

Sure some might say 'What about NJ' because it does look like Republican Chris Christie will win that election. But Christie isn't a raving lunatic Tea Party religious nutjob like Ken Cuccinelli of Virginia.

It gets better. Cuccinelli has refused to step down from his post as Attorney General and if the race is close or there are any voter irregularities it will be his office that decides whether or not to hear the arguments. This man is desperate for power and he is a zealot. He reminds me of the Martin Sheen character in the Dead Zone. I get the same feeling when I hear Ted Cruz speak. Virginians better get out and vote. I know I am.
