Schwarzenegger wants law changed so he can run for president.
Source: Independent.Ie
Arnold Schwarzenegger is reportedly trying to get the law changed so he can run for US President.
At the moment US constitution states that only American-born people can land the role and as the 66-year-old star was born in Austria, it rules him out.
Arnold was Governor of California between 2003 and 2011 and has apparently decided to do his best to get the regulations changed.
Schwarzenegger has been talking openly about working on getting the constitutional rules changed so he can run for president in 2016. He is ready to file legal paperwork to challenge the rules, an insider told New York Post.

He is an utter loser. Back to Hollywood with him. Besides, the woman he two-timed was a member of the Kennedy family. Not a smart thing to do in America. We love the Kennedys.
Maria Shriver was outstanding on issues of women and children. It was her presence that helped get him elected. So much for gratitude on his part. And I am not usually concerned about sex scandals. But in his case, when he used his wife's family credentials as bona fides in the political marketplace, it was a pretty crummy thing to do. Shame on him. He used Maria Shriver. That is how I feel.

(2,895 posts)Not (god forbid) to see my former governor (gag) to run for president... but to allow my daughter to run for president!
She is only 11, but first got involved with student government (she was elected school secretary) at 9, and she's a natural. But, she was born in a different country to citizens of that country, and she didn't become a US citizen until she arrived in the U.S. at 6 months (after we adopted her). She was kind of bummed to learn about that restriction...
I hadn't realized it until now, but some people have been working to give internationally adopted children rights that are equal to those of children born in this country--including the right to run for president-- through a new law, instead of a constitutional amendment:
http://www.equalityforadoptedchildren.org/legislation/face/section.html
<<S.1359 and H.R. 3110, the Foreign Adopted Children Equality Act (FACE Act).
This bill was introduced on June 25, 2009 by Senators Landrieu (D-LA) and Inhofe (R-OK) and on June 26, 2009 by Congresswoman Watson (D-CA) and Congressman Boozman (R-AR). Following each section of text, is a detailed explanation of the purpose of each provision and the resulting benefits to adopted children and their families should this legislation become law.>>
http://www.equalityforadoptedchildren.org/legislation/face/why_needed.html
<<Finally, the Act also amends Section 301 of the Immigration and Nationality Act (8 U.S.C. 1401) which defines who is considered an American citizen from birth. This is the section of law that provides automatic U.S. citizenship from birth to biological children born to American citizens abroad. The amendment would add internationally adopted children of American citizens to this section, therefore, providing them with U.S. citizenship from birth. Thus, internationally adopted children of American citizens would have the privilege of two heritages the heritage of their country of origin and the heritage of their new country and all the benefits that come with being a U.S. citizen from birth including the same opportunity to run for President of the United States as biological children born abroad to American parents.>>
