Sparks Middle School shooting: Teacher killed by gunman ID'd, called a hero
Source: Reno Gazette-Journal
The Reno Gazette-Journal has confirmed Michael Landsberry, a math teacher at Sparks Middle School, was shot and killed this morning after a student opened fire, wounding two others and killing himself.
His family said today the fact that Landsberry is being called a hero for trying to get the student shooter to put his gun down before being shot and killed is no surprise.
To hear he was trying to protect those kids doesnt surprise me at all, said Chanda Landsberry, who is married to Michaels younger brother, Reggie. He could have ducked and hid, but he didnt. Thats not who he is.

(11,014 posts)it is his fault for
a) not being armed
b) not having armed security guards and

(6,635 posts)that no law or regulation could have prevented this, so we just have to accept these incidents because: Second Amendment, My Rights, Freedom, and Liberty.
People die in car accidents too, so we can't regulate guns.

(37,748 posts)As long as the implication from the monied-interests and gun-nutters is that the deaths of innocents are merely part and parcel of the price we pay for our current 2nd Am rights, we'll unfortunately be reading this story many, many more times.

(39,171 posts)all the action is at the state level. The idea that the proper SC will result in a national sea change in gun control is nonsense. Those states inclined towards gun control will undoubtedly impose some stricter laws but many will not. There has been a great liberalization of gun control laws in America - the great conceit of the gun control movement is that all those pro-gun laws were passed against the wishes of the people.
Don't forget that many state constitutions also include the right to keep and bear arms. The Federal government can do nothing about that.

(10,559 posts)Thus, who he IS. The poster was (I think) acknowledging the loss with a grieving "WAS". My take, for what it is worth.
Condolences on your loss.
