Sparks Middle School shooting: Teacher killed by gunman ID'd, called a hero

Source: Reno Gazette-Journal

The Reno Gazette-Journal has confirmed Michael Landsberry, a math teacher at Sparks Middle School, was shot and killed this morning after a student opened fire, wounding two others and killing himself.

His family said today the fact that Landsberry is being called a hero for trying to get the student shooter to put his gun down before being shot and killed is no surprise.

“To hear he was trying to protect those kids doesn’t surprise me at all,” said Chanda Landsberry, who is married to Michael’s younger brother, Reggie. “He could have ducked and hid, but he didn’t. That’s not who he is.”

As I posted earlier today, I look forward to the day when we as a country are no longer in need of such heroes.

it is his fault for

a) not being armed
b) not having armed security guards and
c) not ducking in front of a responsible (sarcasm) gun owner.

As long as the implication from the monied-interests and gun-nutters is that the deaths of innocents are merely part and parcel of the price we pay for our current 2nd Am rights, we'll unfortunately be reading this story many, many more times.

Gots to come from the Court when the legislatures are too scared of the fearful, ignorant and downright cruel apologists for capricious murder as liberty affirming.

all the action is at the state level. The idea that the proper SC will result in a national sea change in gun control is nonsense. Those states inclined towards gun control will undoubtedly impose some stricter laws but many will not. There has been a great liberalization of gun control laws in America - the great conceit of the gun control movement is that all those pro-gun laws were passed against the wishes of the people.

Don't forget that many state constitutions also include the right to keep and bear arms. The Federal government can do nothing about that.

Thus, who he IS. The poster was (I think) acknowledging the loss with a grieving "WAS". My take, for what it is worth.

Condolences on your loss.
