McDonald's McResources line urges worker to seek federal assistance
Source: LA Times
Nancy Salgado has worked at McDonalds for 10 years and struggles to support her children with a wage that keeps her under the poverty line. So she called the fast-food behemoths employee hotline, known as McResources, in hopes of finding help making ends meet.
But instead of getting any company assistance, the McDonalds operator suggested Salgado try food pantries, federal food stamps and Medicaid.
The conversation which was recorded and released to the public Wednesday by labor advocacy group Low Pay Is Not Ok comes as attention is growing around the taxpayer burden of so many low-paid workers in the fast-food industry.
A report released earlier this month written by economists at UC Berkeley and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign found that more than half of families of fast-food workers receive some form of public assistance, costing the nation $7 billion a year.

(26,319 posts)senate (which is doubtful considering how many politicians regardless of party are in the pocket of the varies corporations) and that is there should be a tax on all company profits (even those profits not brought back into the US) that raises and lowers based on the number of part timers companies have on the payroll.
Larger number of part timers? Bigger tax on profits, lower number of part timers lower the tax.
On the flip side there should be a tax break on company profits based upon the number of full timers who are employed as well as how much they are paid over the minimum wage, larger the number of employees and the more they are paid over minimum wage then the larger the company can get a break on tax wise.

(2,205 posts)As you have outlined though, your ideas will never pass, since corporations through their wealth ---run amerika
And since these corporations have most Senators and Reps in their pocket.
Corporations will continue to get corporate welfare and feed at the trough as amerika will be over run in the future by an enlarging, increasingly poor, lower class.

(32,100 posts)companies that do this should be hit with a special penalty for stealing from the taxpayers. As far as I'm concerned it's time to double the federal minimum wage (at least).
