(CNN) - Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney has won the Wyoming caucuses, CNN projects.

Based on straw-poll results compiled and released by the Wyoming Republican Party, Romney won 39% of the votes cast in straw polls conducted at county-level caucuses.

Former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum came in second with 32% of the straw poll vote, followed by Texas Congressman Ron Paul with 21% and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich with 8%.

The delegate count may be closer. Of the 26 delegates at stake, CNN estimates Romney will pick up 10 delegates, while Santorum will take in nine delegates, Paul will receive six, and Gingrich one.

Romney wins nonbinding vote at Wyoming precincts

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) -- Mitt Romney has won a nonbinding vote of Republican activists who turned out for precinct caucuses across Wyoming during the past two weeks.

The former Massachusetts governor was the favorite of 39 percent of the 2,108 caucus goers, while former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum finished second with 32 percent. Texas Rep. Ron Paul had 21 percent, and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich had 8 percent.

The caucuses also elected delegates to county conventions, which meet next week to select 12 delegates and 11 alternates to the Republican National Convention. Twelve county conventions will elect one delegate each, and the other 11 will each select an alternate.

This isn't even non-binding in the way the earlier caucuses were non-binding, these have no nearly bearing whatsoever.

And Romney won the voter nearly entirely because of overwhelming wins in the most Mormon counties.

This whole group of candidates is a big joke and the only state they saw a big increase in interest was SC, which is a state of crazies (and I can say that because I live here).

The only people that will bother to show up are party hacks. Hopefully I'm wrong though. I want to see them drag this out as long as possible - and see infighting all the up to and beyond the convention. It's a great source of entertainment!

I want an Obmam/Romney race because of the Senate race in MA. I want Dems to come out in full force to defeat Brown which I think can happen if Romney is on the ballot in MA. Latest polls ( and I know it is still early) has Brown with a 10 point lead over Brown.
