CO: Sen. Hudak will resign seat to end recall threat, hold Democrats’ Senate majority

Source: KDVR-TV FOX 31 Denver

State Sen. Evie Hudak has decided to resign rather than risk facing a recall election that, should she lose, would flip control of the senate to Republicans, FOX31 Denver is first to report Wednesday...

Hudak, D-Westminster, could have been the third Democratic lawmaker to face a recall over a package of gun control bills they helped pass earlier this year.

Sens. John Morse, D-Colorado Springs, and Angela Giron, D-Pueblo, both decided to fight recall elections against them, but were ousted in September in favor of Republican replacements...

By resigning before the signatures are turned in, she assures that a Democratic vacancy committee will appoint her replacement, keeping the seat — and the senate — in the party’s hands, at least through November, when her successor will be forced to win reelection.

we should have enough active liberals in all these communities to make the bullies stand down. But they are poor and intimidated.

CO is another plantation electorate, once you get outside metro Denver.

5. No, it's a motivation problem

Those seeking to replace the Democrat are highly motivated, and so they bother to show up for the special election.

Those who think this is dumb are not highly motivated, and so they do not bother to show up for the special election.

The pro-Walker faction was more motivated

6. Ordinary Democratic voters aren't fired up enough to vote in recalls.

The gun nutz (some of whom are actually Dems who are shooting themselves in the foot) and repubs will turn out, because they're always ripe for manipulation.

And this was a predictable outcome, given what many already knew when the latest push for more gun control started.

Public support for gun control has proven to be broad but shallow. Most people will agree we need more, unspecified forms of gun control, but they usually don't seem to care deeply enough about it to turn out at the polls when it comes time to vote specific ones into effect.

The gun nuts are out of their minds. And I deeply respect the actions of Sen. Hudak.

8. Guns are the "excuse" for the recall efforts.

It's about changing the balance in the state senate. It's about undoing the will of Colorado's voters. Nothing about these recalls has been about proper governance, with supression of mail ballots to recall activists voting outside their districts. The gun lobby has been delighted to take the lead, it serves their purposes well while attempting to nullify the outcome of legitimate elections.

Step back ... take a big picture gander at what has just happened.

The gun radicals have huffed-and-puffed and stewed and steamed -- to what end?

Democrats still control the Colorado state senate; there will be no change to any of the new gun safety laws (there wouldn't have been anyway); the voters have seen just how radical these gun radicals are and just how far they will bully to get what they want; and term-limited Hudak is now a heroic political martyr to Democrats, liberals, progressives and moderates (i.e., the majority of voters in this state).

Frankly, the recall radicals look pretty silly today.

Alas in the end it all boils down to this (apologies to the bard): "It was a recall run by idiots, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing."

Hudak is my state senator and she did the correct thing; I commend her.

to resign so that their party (state and nation) could win? Colorado owes these three Dems so much. But Hickenlooper has not done nearly enough to support them, as he's afraid he will lose his job if he stands up against his oil, beer, and gun buddies.
Did you notice that the 30 round PMAG empty gun magazines used by Adam Lanza, who killed 26 children and teachers at Sandy Hook Elementary, were made by Magpul Industries in Erie CO? The same crazies who threatened to move out of CO if the very limited gun bills, to have background checks and limit magazines to 15 rounds, were passed. They, gun lobbies (with help of the Denver Post) spent a lot of money spreading lies and demonizing Diana DeGette, Denver's great Rep., when she backed the bills because "she didn't know enough about ammunition magazines". Obviously, Lanza did know enough thanks to Magpul.

Denver/Boulder are the progressive parts of the state.

Weld County (where the University of Northern Colorado is) was crazy right enough to want to secede.

Colorado Springs is home of Focus on the Family.

At least it was when I lived there. I suspect that Giron lost because the Dems stayed home--as usual. I'm sure that the nutbags have been trickling down from the Springs, too...
