Chick-fil-A working to remove dyes, corn syrup
Source: AP
NEW YORK (AP) Chick-fil-A says it's removing high-fructose corn syrup from its white buns and artificial dyes from its sauces and dressings as part of a push to improve its ingredients.
The fast-food chicken chain says the reformulated buns are being tested in about 200 Georgia locations, while the sauces and dressings will be tested starting early next year. It says it also removed a yellow dye from its chicken soup and that the new recipe should be in all restaurants by the end of this month.
It's also testing a new peanut oil, with hopes of a rollout early next year.
The changes come after blogger Vani Hari wrote a post in 2011 titled "Chick-fil-A or Chemical Fil-A?" on her site, FoodBabe.com. It noted that the chain's sandwich had nearly 100 ingredients, including peanut oil with TBHQ, a chemical made from butane. Hari, based in Charlotte, N.C., continued writing about Chick-fil-A's ingredients.

(3,610 posts)and I believe it was her campaign to get Kraft to remove some of the poisonous dyes from some of their mac and cheese products. It's a start, anyway!

(13,986 posts)They could go organic an I still wouldn't eat there as long as their hate filled actions against the LBGT continued.
The closest "restaurant" to where I work is a Chic-Filet and after 5 years, I've still not eaten there once and probably never will.

(4,490 posts)Did they stop supporting homophobia yet? And how much do they pay their employees? Seems like there's lots of room for at least one of these fast food companies to differentiate themselves from the competition in a positive manner.

(6,785 posts)As long as you kick out a message a lot of people agree with, you can hate gay people all you want. It works for organized religion, it might work for fast food.
If their chicken-burgers were made of organically farmed solid gold and garnished with unicorn tears, they'd still suck ass.

(61,712 posts)Chik-fil-A has made such a big deal of their homophobia, their loyal fans are now mostly extremist right-wingers, and those folks don't believe in healthy eating. They don't care about dyes in food anymore than they believe in global warming.

(2,083 posts)Sorry but they are overrated. If I want good chicken I'll go to Wendy's or KFC or Popeyes.
I will say that their chicken salad sandwich is quite excellent. Too bad I only get a taste for it on Sundays.

(750 posts)High-fructose corn syrup is something that from my view is way underestimated as being dangerous as a food product. For years my opinion has been trending in that direction, but since my last doctors visit because of an injury my doctor agrees that I should avoid this food product.
Much of the corn product that is grown for fuel as ethanol uses Anhydrous Ammonia as fertilizer to grow it. This ammonia chemical is a carcinogen, cancer causing.
Many corn farms along, or adjacent to the rail roads, like Buffets BNSF or the Union Pacific that trek through a lot of farm land which might leak other chemicals too. Some of these corn products pirate their way to animal feed and popular corn chips, I used to eat Dorito by the bag full but not anymore, many can build a list of food products that stretch profit base line. Always shopping for peanut butter, jelly, and bread without high fructose corn is challenging.
Never went to a Chick fil a fast food place, all though I do support the LBGT movement. I stopped buying British petroleum gas, BP. I disconnected from cable and satellite. Much of my news is on DU. My entertainment is renting videos, or swapping television series with friends.
The best part of all of this is no commercials, moreover waiting till the news sifts out the real criminal stuff then a see you-tube clips, especially here on DU with all the sideline commentaries is extraordinary and in most cases very educational.
