Pope calls hunger "global scandal," urges lifestyle changes

Source: Reuters

Dec 9 (Reuters) - Pope Francis denounced the "global scandal" of hunger on Monday, calling for an international "wave of prayer" to bring attention to the plight of the needy and homeless.

Since his election in March, Francis, the former Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio of Argentina, has frequently beseeched global leaders to fight poverty and growing inequality.

"We are in front of a global scandal of around one billion - one billion people who still suffer from hunger today," he said in a video message launching a campaign by Caritas Internationalis, a confederation of 164 Catholic charities working in 200 countries. "We cannot look the other way and pretend this does not exist. The food available in the world is enough to feed everyone," he said.

The pope also appeared to call for lifestyle changes, urging people "to become more conscious in our food choices, which often lead to waste and a poor use of the resources available to us".

Who will denounce him more loudly this time? The 1% or the mega-fans of Ryan's Buffet?

He is at least making the "Call Outs". Is he trying to make amends, maybe but he's actually doing the work as opposed to those prior.

Let them eat cake!!!!

I will push through drastic cuts to the SNAP program and any other program that creates a dependency on government even if that takes food out of the mouths of the working poor, children, seniors and veterans.

Bankers' best guesses about the Vatican's wealth put it at $10 billion to $15 billion. Of this wealth, Italian stockholdings alone run to $1.6 billion, 15% of the value of listed shares on the Italian market.

Sorry Papa Frank. You're a sweet guy when it comes to many things, but if you want to do something about hunger, the lifestyle change your talking about involves the multigenarational use of latex.

Their disgusting and deadly war against condoms. Telling AIDS ravaged countries that condoms are a mortal sin and cause AIDS instead of preventing it. The insane policy of likening contraceptives to murder in every 3rd world country where they have a toe hold, is the cause of poverty, death and horrible illness worldwide.

I think Francis needs to change his church before he stands a chance of getting the rest of the world to change.

This entire statement is nothing more than a load of "feel good" bullshit.

Lets bloody pray and our imginary friend will provide.

And never mind an equivalent of "Eat your food! Just think about all those poor starving children in Africa" for adults.
