Protest fever spreads into red provinces (Thai)

Source: Bangkok Post

Anti-government protesters, including those in some provinces with Pheu Thai Party and red-shirt strongholds, rallied across the country to join the Democrat-led protests in the capital against the Yingluck Shinawatra government. The prime minister's announcement yesterday morning that the government had decided to dissolve the House didn't discourage thousands of rally-goers from hitting the streets.

Many marched to provincial halls and blew whistles to protest against the caretaker government. The House dissolution can only relieve the political turmoil in the short run, predicted Songkhla Chamber of Commerce...

My take:

A corrupt billionaire politician brazenly uses the office of Prime Minister to pocket $ 2 billion in broad daylight and wants to reshape Thailand into a republic and install himself as the first President.

Despite his enormous wealth he is unable to bribe his way out of corruption charges and is brought down and found guilty becoming a billionaire without a country (but with lots of people who would love to have him sleep on their couch).

He uses his sister who has no political background to start a new party (the old one being banned for broad election violations) and pumps tens of millions into buying votes in a massive scheme in the poor rural areas much in the same way the Koch brothers have pumped millions into the poor rural areas to gain political power.

In time the proxy government abandons all pretext and for the last year has had only one objective: Amnesty for Thaksin and return of the $ 2 billion ceased by the government.

And, remarkably, despite obvious attempts to bribe the political and judicial elite, the rule of law is maintained and the attempt fails and is found to be unconstitutional.

Hundreds of thousands protesters who represent a broad coalition of Royal loyalists, Buddhists, Academics, Former Communists, long time reformers occupy the various ministries and will not let the criminals ignore the Thai Supreme Court's finding that it is unconstitutional.

And the Thai personification of Sarah Palin using ultra nationalism to attack minorities and create hyper partisan divides fail.

Even in the provinces where they have spent millions the people have turned against the criminal clique.

Here is the Prime Minister breaking down in a Palinesque cry to stop attacking her:

"So this is the way it is going to be? I have retreated until I don't know how I can retreat anymore and beg that you see I am innocent thank you"
