DC area, northeast seeing another round of snow

Source: AP-EXCITE

By BEN NUCKOLS

SPRINGFIELD, Va. (AP) - Residents along the East Coast and in the Appalachians woke up to snow Tuesday, leading to widespread closures of schools and government offices and a near-disappearance of the traffic that usually strangles the Washington region.

By mid-morning, the National Weather Service had downgraded its outlook for the storm, calling for snowfall totals of 1 to 3 inches on the Eastern Seaboard. Tuesday's storm followed a stronger-than-expected burst of winter weather on Sunday that left several inches in Philadelphia and northern Delaware and Maryland.

Snow and ice prompted officials at the Philadelphia International Airport to temporarily ground departing flights and slowed motorists across New Jersey.

In Washington, snow was falling at daybreak, but traffic problems failed to materialize as many workers stayed home. Non-emergency federal employees were granted an excused absence and others were told to telecommute, according to the U.S. Office of Personnel Management.

After it gets through with us first, however.

Forecast is for 3-4 inches more here today, on top of the 4-5 already on the ground.

I expect that snowmobiles will be coming down my rural dirt road today to get to the national forest.

Bundled up and put my snow covered car into the garage this morning. Left it out yesterday. Lots of fluffy stuff on top of it.

Stay warm New Englanders.

She's half American Eskimo (smaller version of a Samoyed) and it's her favorite element.

I guess we caught the core of the storm this time -- I thought it was supposed to center on New Jersey, but apparently not.

After a few cool days a few weeks ago we've been in the 80's everyday. Originally from NJ, I look forward to cooler weather.
