Pew: Approval Of Obama, Obamacare Back To Pre-Rollout Levels

Source: TPM

TOM KLUDT – DECEMBER 10, 2013, 5:00 PM EST

The political damage absorbed by President Obama and his signature legislative achievement appears to have subsided, a poll released Tuesday found.

According to the latest Pew Research Center/USA Today poll, Obama's approval rating has finally ended what's been a five-month dip, although his standing is still considerably lower than where it was at the start of the year. The poll showed 45 percent of Americans approve of the job Obama is doing, compared with 49 percent who disapprove.

While that's lower than the 55 percent approval rating Obama boasted in a Pew poll a year ago, it's essentially the same as where it stood before the Affordable Care Act's flawed rollout took a huge political toll.

In September, before both the government shutdown and the launch of Obamacare, Pew found that 44 percent approved of Obama while 49 percent disapproved.

For instance on today's NPR political report one NE expert was saying that Scott Brown might be more likely to run against Shaheen if the election can be cast as a referendum on ACA. Now, I think SB is the most over rated, media adored for no real reason politician out there, but that repeats this theme. (In that case, Shaheen is very well regarded in a state that knows her as both Governor and Senator.)

What this OP is suggesting is that ACA has regained the status it had before the roll out. Though that was not great, it was enough that Democrats did well in 2012. As a suggestion of a potential trend - that more people will see it as good - or at least as not the evil the Republicans spoke of - by 2014 IS really good news for Democrats.

I do agree that Obama's numbers will go up after office - nearly all Presidents' do - including GWB which I would have thought impossible.
