Obamacare Enrollment Jumps 34% In New York

Source: NY Daily News

State officials reported Monday that enrollments in New York State of Health, the state's insurance marketplace, surged 34% in just the past week.

As of 9 a.m. Monday, 363,258 New Yorkers had completed their applications on the state’s health care exchange and 134,622 people had gone on to select coverage.

Of those obtaining coverage, 95,196 obtained private insurance and the rest qualified for Medicaid.

“We are very pleased to see that since the launch of NY State of Health on October 1, almost 135,000 New Yorkers have enrolled in quality, low-cost health insurance, and over 363,000 have completed applications and are eligible for insurance,” Donna Frescatore, executive director of NY State of Health, said. “We are seeing tremendous activity, and in the last week alone enrollments have increased by about 34 percent."

I started using the NY website on Friday and kept getting errors through the weekend. On Monday morning I called and waited an hour for a representative to help out. He said the interface between NY and the Federal databases was hanging up and was surprised when it finally worked. He helped me through the process. The website isn't really user friendly, but after going through it once I knew the right choices. Just for information's sake, the income you have to enter is for 2014.
