Sean Duffy: Fellow Republicans Sometimes 'Come Across As Knuckle-Dragging Neanderthals'
The Huffington Post | By Mollie Reilly

Former Rep. Sean Duffy (R-Wis.) on Tuesday joined the chorus of Republicans urging their colleagues to tone down their rhetoric, comparing some of his fellow conservatives to "knuckle-dragging Neanderthals."

Appearing on MSNBC's "Morning Joe," Duffy said some members of the GOP need to work on getting their message across more effectively.

"From my perspective, and I come from a very 50-60 district in central and northern Wisconsin, you have people on our side of the aisle that have a really abrasive tone," he said. "We can come across as knuckle-dragging Neanderthals on occasion."

Duffy continued, "I'm a fiscal and social conservative, but we have to actually take our message to where people are at. We have moms that can't pay the utility bill, dads who can't pay the mortgage. How does our conservative ideology and philosophy actually help lift them out of the place that they're in today and move them up the economic ladder? We don't do a good job of presenting that message, and we have to change how we're doing it.”

Andrea Mitchell ON FIRE roasts GOP congressman over denial of death benefits to US troops
10/9/2013 8:00am by John Aravosis

Andrea Mitchell interviews Republican Congressman Sean Duffy of Wisconsin about the disgraceful fact that the Republican shutdown has now cut off survivor benefits to the families of 17 US service members killed in action since the shutdown began.

You have to give credit to Duffy for one thing: He makes clear during the seven-minute interview that the entire shutdown is about Obamacare, Obamacare, Obamacare.

It’s an interesting admission, as the Republicans, over the past day, have steadily moved away from the health care reform talking point as the public is decidedly not on their side about shutting down the government to protest the Affordable Care Act.

Suddenly, the Republicans are talking more broadly about “cutting the deficit,” rather than admitting up front that they’re taking benefits away from the families of dead US service members out of spite against a law they don’t like.

Unfortunately, he's my Rep, having replaced David Obey in the 7th,

And I think he may be unwittingly speaking the truth when he talks about a "50-60" district. In this state lately, the Republicans seem to have been winning with margins of 60% to the Dems' 50%, with additional Republican votes showing up as needed in the darnedest places.

And if the GOPers do a better job in getting their message across, that knuckledragging will be abundantly obvious to absolutely everybody, because their actual message is one of knuckledragginess.

How does our conservative ideology and philosophy actually help lift them out of the place that they're in today and move them up the economic ladder?

Republican response: Those losers either sink or swim. If a guy like Mitt Romney bankrupts their job out from underneath them and sends them to the unemployment line, or sends their job overseas -- tough luck. Find another job or starve, loser. If you're a good WHITE Christian and GOD is WITH you AND you're not (an outspoken) homosexual, then you will prosper (just like us). Otherwise, you get what you deserve, and don't come crying to us.

In so many words...

the better they look when compared to Republicans.

For example, we now know that Neanderthal communities took care of their aged and ill members.

The rhetoric, at least. A clumsy attempt to bring "sanity" to the Party of nutters and racists.

He can gloss over his cruel ideology with "reality-TV" slickness, but watch what he does, not what he says. I live in his district and believe he's aware that there's a good chance this is his only term. He has failed to represent his constituents, but has served very well as an unctuous lackey to the koch boys et al.

Whether it’s extending unemployment insurance, equal pay for women, or raising the minimum wage, Sean Duffy just isn’t on the side of working people.
