Sheriff: school gunman planned to attack 5 spots

CENTENNIAL, Colo. (AP) Investigators believe a gunman who opened fire at Colorado's Arapahoe High School had selected at least five spots he wanted to target on his rampage.
The Arapahoe County sheriff said Tuesday that letters and numbers corresponding to the labels of the school library and four adjacent classrooms were written in marker on Karl Pierson's arm. Investigators are looking into who was in the rooms to see if those people were deliberate targets of the gunman.
Authorities have previously said they believed a librarian who headed the speech and debate team was Pierson's intended target. The librarian escaped but Pierson critically wounded a 17-year-old girl. Authorities say he fatally shot himself as a resource officer closed in.
Also found written on Pierson's arm was a Latin phrase that translates to "The die has been cast."

(3,194 posts)A gun is a much better solution to a problem than using your brain and dealing with the obstacles life puts in your way.
Back when I was growing up in the 70's and 80's, a person would just have to move on, find another achievement in life, when something like getting kicked off the debate team should occur.
Nowadays, you can just get a gun.....legally of course.....just as in this case, and attempt to find a solution that way, which generally means the end of the road. An "I QUIT" moment when you just can't see living another 60+ years, and want to go out with a bang, pun intended.

I heard this from a co-worker yesterday, ""Glenn Beck said....I don't know if it is true but I have to assume that it is...the reason that kid stopped was because of an armed guard in the school"
I went back to my office and googled it up.
The CNN story
http://www.cnn.com/2013/12/14/us/colorado-school-shooting/
includes completel speculation. Yes there was a police officer in the school and yes he did run towards the library but there is no way to know if that is why this kid killed himself. Now, with this story non of it adds up. There is just no way to know why the kid killed himself -- that tends to the be the M.O. of this whackjobs anyway.

(1,589 posts)a school resource officer, like my friend here in colorado springs, is a uniformed, sworn person of the police department. not a guard. They are _exactly_ who, if anyone, should be in a school with a weapon.
