Mining firm drops out after Wisconsin bill rejected

Source: Milwaukee Journal Sentinal

Madison - The state Senate rejected mining legislation on Tuesday, prompting a prominent mining company to say it was abandoning a project after months of often bitter debate that pitted conflicting claims of economic development against environmental protection.

"Senate rejection of the mining reforms . . . sends a clear message that Wisconsin will not welcome iron mining. We get the message," said a statement from Bill Williams, president of Gogebic Taconite LLC. &quot We are) ending plans to invest in a Wisconsin mine."

Gogebic Iron Mine is DEAD DEAD DEAD!

MAJOR LOSS for Walker and the Walkerban Republicans in Madison.....one lone Republican stood against his party to protect Wisconsin's environment! Dems were unified in opposition and public opinion was building against the mine. It was clear this was another backroom promise Walker made....

The message sent was that Wisconsin will not welcome a project that will pollute the environment, cost taxpayer dollars, and not provide enough jobs....

And the fact that the Republicans are on the run and scared!

It should be a vacation destination. I remember vacationing there when I was growing up. My mother's favorite cousin lived there. I can still taste the 'brick' cheese we would buy and take back w/ us.

Will the Republicans call another vote without telling the Democrats about it until the minute before, so that some are not present? They did that in the Assembly, so why not in the Senate? They aren't even trying to hide it anymore.
