David Crosby postpones shows to have heart surgery

Source: San Francisco Chronicle

David Crosby, who was scheduled to perform at the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco on Thursday and Friday, has postponed all his California tour dates after undergoing emergency heart surgery.

On his doctor's recommendation, Crosby underwent a cardiac catheterization and angiogram Friday based on the results of a routine cardiac stress test that revealed that his left anterior coronary artery was 90 percent blocked. Without the procedure, his publicist Michael Jensen said, a heart attack was imminent.

The 72-year-old Crosby, a founding member of the Byrds, is touring in support of "Croz," his first solo album in more than two decades. The San Francisco dates have been rescheduled for April 20 and 21.

Only with me it was 2 arteries and they were 99% blocked. I have low blood pressure, so I barely noticed a thing. Also, I was in Germany, so they kept me 3 days. The doc said a few more hours, a day or two at most, and I would have keeled over from a massive coronary, probably never to awaken. The only thing he said to me in English was "Just in time."

I got 2 stents put in that day. I now count April 29, 2004 as my second birthday. I haven't become vegan as Bill Clinton did (but I didn't have a quintuple bypass, either). But I was told to change my diet, and believe me, I did just that.

Peeps, catheterization and stent placements are NOT "heart surgery" they are "cardiac procedures". Surgery is when they put you to sleep and open you up. I know I'm being pedantic, but I spent quite a few years preparing people for both things. One is a Very Big Deal. The other is a big deal but it's not surgery. Sorry to be so picky but it drives me nuts. /getting off old nurse soapbox now
