Scott Walker, eyeing 2016, faces fallout from probes as ex-aide’s e-mails are released
Source: Washington Post
MILWAUKEE Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, who has been eyeing a 2016 presidential run since his battles with labor unions made him a Republican star, is in the midst of dealing with the fallout of two criminal investigations at home that could complicate his move to the national stage.
One is ongoing, and while the other is now closed with no allegations of wrongdoing by Walker, it has the lingering potential to embarrass him.
That could begin as early as Wednesday with the release of more than 25,000 pages of e-mails from an ex-staffer that were gathered as part of the now-concluded investigation. The probe focused on Walkers time as Milwaukee County executive before his 2010 election as governor and led to convictions of six former aides and allies.
Even if Walker escapes the e-mail release unscathed, he faces an additional inquiry from state prosecutors, who are believed to be looking into whether his successful 2012 recall campaign illegally coordinated with independent conservative groups.

They were just released this morning at 9:00am central time. Goody.

(430 posts)I see no charisma in this Wanker. How did he get this far? At the beginning of a presidential campaign without an incumbent, there is eight to twelve challengers, and then they start dropping like flies. Explain to me, how Scott Walker is not one of those flies over the cow pie?

(2,205 posts)The following is the transcript of the conversation between Gov. Scott Walker and who he thinks is billionaire donor David Koch, although it is actually blogger Ian Murphy, who goes by the name Buffalo Beast.
Walker: Hi; this is Scott Walker.
Murphy: Scott! David Koch. How are you?
Walker: Hey, David! Im good. And yourself?
Murphy: Im very well. Im a little disheartened by the situation there, but, uh, whats the latest?
Walker: Well, were actually hanging pretty tough. I mean-you know, amazingly theres a much smaller group of protesters-almost all of whom are in from other states today. The State Assembly is taking the bill up-getting it all the way to the last point it can be at where its unamendable. But theyre waiting to pass it until the Senates in-the Senate Democrats, excuse me, the assembly Democrats have about a hundred amendments theyre going through. The state Senate still has the 14 members missing but what theyre doing today is bringing up all sorts of other non-fiscal items, many of which are things that members in the Democratic side care about. And each day were going to ratchet it up a little bit. The Senate majority leader had a great plan he told about this morning-he told the Senate Democrats about and hes going to announce it later today, and that is: The Senate organization committee is going to meet and pass a rule that says if you dont show up for two consecutive days on a session day, in the state Senate, the Senate chief clerk-its a little procedural thing here, but-can actually have your payroll stopped from being automatically deducted-

(53,475 posts)It sure is interesting how some fixate on a promise of 250,000 new jobs, but could care less that under ObamaCare there are millions of Americans that have lost their insurance coverage and/or doctors in the implementation of the Presidents signature program to increase the number of Americans that have health insurance coverage.
From these emails, we'll probably learn juicy details! Perhaps that Governor Walker prefers pastrami on rye, rather than ham and cheese! Or that he favored the passage of Act 10! Or some other (non-)bombshell!
The trap is sprung. The expresso/digital-gadget crowd has assured All Wisconsinites that there are bombshell revelations. They have been promising this for months.
Won't it be hilarious when they get egg on their face? (Or pastrami and rye?)

and my favorite, for it shows how Walker's backers really think ....

This is going nowhere, it's already over. And the recall investigation isn't going to land on him either. What a disappointment that this is all this is about. I thought from the headlines that something new was found.

(9,740 posts)Expect the WI media to bury this as soon as possible, probably over this weekend cycle. The right wing mantra will continue, mostly towards the MKE suburbs. Local RW radio hosts will gloss this, Limbaugh may even gloss this with Fox News, a fresh ad buy will come to flood the airwaves with pro-Walker propaganda and on his presidential campaign goes for the 2016 GOP primary.

(9,740 posts)I agree the national media will jump on this and towards 2016 his overall general election chances go down, the initial focus is the teabagger primaries and this will be heavily filtered in their bubble. If you love Walker you will continue to love him, and he is still pretty safe statewide in WI, but if you are neutral and outside the media bubble, it will hurt Walker. Still, Washington Post articles do not have the pull they did in the 70s.
