27 liberal groups oppose Obama judicial nominee

Source: AP

WASHINGTON (AP) — Twenty-seven liberal groups have united in calling on Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee to reject one of President Barack Obama's judicial nominees.

The groups, including NARAL Pro-Choice America and the Human Rights Campaign, oppose the nomination of Michael Boggs to serve on the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia.

In a letter on Thursday, the groups cited Boggs' record as a state legislator in the Georgia Assembly on issues such as abortion, gay rights and civil rights. They cited his support for legislation on parental notification and a vote for keeping the Confederate battle emblem on the state flag.

6. Georgia is right wing, Southern, and about as awful as all other Southern states

In order to "blend" in Southern states one has to be either as right wing as the particular State is, or one has to be quiet and not speak up. I know gays who live in Georgia, Democrats who live in Georgia, and whether they admit it or not, they're always walking on eggshells about speaking out. And it's scary. Just the other day I heard a scary thing from my massage therapist. His neighbors are homophobes, and they let their dog out day and night to bother them with constant barking. How does one deal with that, when one knows the neighbors are filled with hate?

Same thing goes on in small towns in Florida, and particularly those in the center and north.

All these places are places with a very ugly history, and even worse, a history many of the residents adore.

I don't know if deep down inside this judge is a real Democrat pretending not to be "too lib," or if he's racist, sexist, or a homophobic a-h, or if he's just pretending to be somewhat racist, sexist and homophobic because it's been the only way he's been able to succeed. Either way it's bad and I don't want him to be one of the nominees.

Living in the South sucks tremendously, in my opinion.

the names for nomination. This is who provides the names, perhaps you can convince them to offer liberal names to President Obama. This is the process used when Sotomayer was nominated from NY and Bush appointed her.
