Obama: Dems must focus on state, governor races

Source: ASSOCIATED PRESS

JOSH LEDERMAN, ASSOCIATED PRESS

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama says Democrats must turn their focus to the states and to races for governor this year if they want to ensure that the party’s policies succeed.

Obama says the challenge in politics is that national races get all the attention. He says Democrats wind up in trouble in midterm years because they don’t think state races are, in his words, “sexy enough.”

But he says those races are where much of the action is.

Obama is addressing donors at a fundraiser for the Democratic Governors Association at a ritzy hotel near the White House. He says unlike Democrats, Republican governors are cutting investments for the middle class, curtailing voting rights and squeezing unions. He says their strategy is to tell Americans falsely that Obama’s policies aren’t working.

from his statement? I agree with the rest; but, here's a clue:

If we (Democrats) take the House and expand the Senate, wouldn't we (Democrats) be in the position to get most of what we want?

and stand a decent chance at turning the house, despite what the pundits, that have such the stellar predictive record, might be saying.

The republican reparty is in out-right civil war, internally ... outside conservative groups are calling for the heads of republican leadership because they were willing to compromise ... conservative media is calling for conservatives to sit out the 2014 unless the teapartier wins the primary and the main-line republicans can't stand the teaparty or their representatives.

The table is set for a Democratic sweep ... IF ... Democrats get out the vote; particularly in the contested House districts.

The Dem's need to maintain year round county offices including a media coordinator to counteract all the right wing propaganda out there.

Democrats do need to focus on local elections. However, they do not ignore these races because they are not sexy. I think there are many things that cause Democrats to focus on local elections.
