'Whitey' Bulger may have written his memoirs

Source: Los Angeles Times

March 13, 2012 | 4:13 pm

Alleged mob boss James "Whitey" Bulger may be the author of two autobiographies that are now in the hands of federal prosecutors, according to documents filed in court Tuesday.

Law enforcement officials found a document titled "My Life in the Irish Mafia Wars" in January 1995, shortly after Bulger is believed to have fled the Boston area.

Another document, which prosecutors said "appears to be autobiographical" was found in the Santa Monica apartment he shared with his longtime girlfriend, Catherine E. Greig. The existence of the documents was made public in a status report filed by prosecutors in federal court.

--------

Prosecutors alerted Bulger’s defense attorneys that they might use the autobiographical documents in court.

1. I would be interested in reading those if they are ever published.

It's probably full of pure evil, but I will say one thing for those Bulgers--they are very well spoken. I'll bet the thing is beautifully written.

...if the proceeds go to restitution. That generally seems to be the deal with prison books. I'm not sure the FBI would like that very much, so it's doubtful.

3. Well, there's a bit of a challenge there--he wrote those BEFORE he has been convicted of anything.

Right now, he's still the accused murderer. Innocent until proven, and all that.

He might have a right to the proceeds...

Of course, his victims can sue civilly and take a bite out of that apple.

Then again, he could sign over the rights to his intellectual property to Billy or his girlfriend before he's convicted of anything.

It'll be interesting.

I understand he is ill, maybe terminally. They're hiding him out at Plymouth, far from the madding crowd. At least the air is nice!

6. Well, his brother is a lawyer, I'm sure he's gotten some good advice.

If he dies before he is convicted, like Ken Lay, he would die an INNOCENT MAN.

Which will not sit well with no small number of people...

She's made a deal--the max she'll get is five years.
