Santorum wins Mississippi and Alabama primaries

Updated 11:10 p.m. -- Rick Santorum scored victories in the Mississippi and Alabama primaries on Tuesday, depriving Mitt Romney of a signature win in a conservative stronghold and raising fresh doubts about the viability of Newt Gingrich's campaign.

The former Pennsylvania senator made his case for being the lone, serious Republican challenger to Romney for the remainder of the primary by besting Gingrich in states the former speaker's campaign had previously said were essential to its long-term viability.

Romney had hoped to score a victory in Mississippi, thereby proving his ability to win a state that composes part of the heart of the modern GOP. But he appeared to be heading to a third-place finish in both contests, failing to even surpass Gingrich, a candidate who’s weathered growing calls to exit the race.

Rmoney just racked up 2 third place shows.

looking at the pragmatic side, mitt would be good for the gop.
hes a solid moderate... while i WANT OBAMA to win, if... god help us, IF mitt were selected, he can be bullied and dealt with.

I actually see his changing at the drop of a hat as a good thing. it means that he's open to the political winds... folks that's us!

I'm not saying there will be anything liberal coming out of DC under mittens, but it means that a democratic congress WILL be able to push through bills that will probably slow down the raping and fucking of the middle class...

that and romney will be fairly easy to beat because the base H A T E S him!

santorum... while his ONLY base are the psychos in the party (his campaign would likely be the death of the republican party actually) ... NOT large enough to beat Obama.

what we DO NOT WANT.. is a brokered convention (i think we may get one anyway... which will also destroy the party imho) because they'll pull someone out of their ass that has had no vetting... like jeb bush.

Jeb seems reasonable enough to be able to pull alot of stupid democratic votes.

Keep in mind, his GOP handlers like Grover Norquist will already have his leash tighter than a hangman's noose. Any GOP is a vote for the power brokers, period.

so that's why it's been speculated that a brokered convention would produce something like a Jeb Bush/Marco Rubio ticket, an autumn surprise of sorts.

only that the win wasn't greater.
i saw that bit on bill maher (i feel sorry for chris la voy on steph miller... he's blind to the shit hole the south is politically) and.. really it doesn't surprise me.

that tooth impaired guy summed up the poor gop perfectly.
"im on food stamps because I deserve them. and I'm voting for the gop because one day I might be one of them!"

pathetic.

yes... i'm a south basher.
I had to put up with 8 years of shrub, and the utter DEVASTATION he and his southern ilk did to this country, and i'll never forgive the south.

perhaps it was worth a shit once... once... but never again.

I'm sorry south-living liberals. but I had to live and suffer with being an american in europe during the * years and you can't imagine the utter SHAME I had to live with.

I bet it never once occurred to any other Democrat that lives here either. Man, wait'll I tell them about this "Voting" thing at the next meeting. I mean sure, some of the red states almost went for Obama, but we thought that was some kind of weird natural phenomenon like ball lightning or something.

Yeah, the south is a hotbed of dumbasses, but it certainly isn't confined exclusively to the south. You've proven that beyond a shadow of a doubt.

They have mobilized the radical right and made it the Republican base. In doing so the Republicans have driven away many of the centrists. The radical right is in charge but appears to be incapable of winning, let alone governing in the unlikely event they do win.
