Rauner claims victory in Republican governor race [IL]

Source: Chicago Tribune

First-time candidate Bruce Rauner eked out a surprisingly narrow victory over state Sen. Kirk Dillard for the Republican governor nomination in Tuesday's primary as Democratic Gov. Pat Quinn launched an early TV attack ad against his wealthy challenger.

Rauner, a Winnetka venture capitalist, collected 40 percent to 38 percent for Dillard with 97 percent of precincts counted. State Sen. Bill Brady had 15 percent, and state Treasurer Dan Rutherford had 7.5 percent of the unofficial vote.

On the Democratic side, Quinn recived a commanding 72 percent with 97 percent of precincts counted. Challenger Tio Hardiman, the former leader of the anti-violence group CeaseFire, had 28 percent. A vote for the low-profile Hardiman amounted to a protest vote amid concerns from some Democrats about Quinn's leadership.

“I believe in everyday people. I think a governor has to have a heart. I may not have nine mansions. I have one house,” Quinn said. “I'm not a billionaire. Never will be. I'm not part of the 1 percent and never will be there. I'm not even part of the 0.1 percent. But I'll tell you this. As long as I'm governor I'm going to fight hard for the 99.9 percent.”

Last I heard he was running well behind, but they said that four years ago, too.

they might as well just send this guy to jail now. If he wins, why bother to go through the inauguration, investigation, and conviction of another Illinois governor? This guy is crooked.

I voted today

Than after the vote, I put the huge piece of paper into the automatic counter to see if it would take. It did. The voting person in charge of watching stood in front of credential judges. This older man had a handful of sticker, really cool looking round red white and blue with the American flag on it along with bright red letters printed “I VOTED”.

At first thought how nice, and then looked up at everyone and said gee is there a place to put this sticker coupon on my income tax to get a discount?

To my surprise I got a chuckle from a few. Then, thought why not for any election.

So, Where as we the people do here by initiate coupons to be distributed to all citizens after a vote.

Where random coupons exempt those citizens from paying taxes. A very cool one percent toy don’t you think ? The one percent get bailouts so we get exemptions after the vote.
