Ukraine's interim President Olexander Turchynov says he has ordered the withdrawal of armed forces from Crimea.
The decision was taken because of Russian threats to the lives of military staff and their families, the president announced.

(37,748 posts)I'm afraid I didn't write if was ' all "Soviet era" stuff...'. Merely the majority of it with (as noted) the rest being manufactured either in Ukraine or imported from Russia and other CIS nations...
(I suppose I'd deny an agenda too were my position irrational and ahistorical.)

Except for age. As reported fairly widely (among those sources for whom detail and distinction matter, instead of being inconvenient) there's a time problem. Most of the firearms carried by the Russians are far newer, either in production or in models, than the stuff held by the Ukr.
Then there are the self-confessions. Troops saying where they're from.
Or the accents. Sort of like the New Hampshire National Guard all having Appalachian accents.
