(14,881 posts)no word of if all are firefighters.
The fire is in a Beacon St. brownstone. Started in the basement and flames were shooting straight up through the roof. No Other buildings appear to be involved yet.

(14,881 posts)Good to see you too! Doing ok. Hanging loose on my last day of "vacation" for a while. It's windy and cold, but spring is just around the corner...

(83,773 posts)I hadn't read about it until now.
Two firefighters now dead. The pictures are heartbreaking. Dear Boston, she has had her share of sadness. Yet we take care of our own. We may not always get it all right, yet we are Boston Strong.
Thank you freshwest~

(83,773 posts)They were so lucky to get it under control. The winds could have done untold damage. One of my co-workers lives on the next block.
Yes, 150 braved that cold to do the job. They saved lives. They ran towards the fire, not away from it and we lost two.
There will be a huge funeral in Boston in the next few days.
Thank you freshwest.

(12,504 posts)Built in the 1800s and early 1900s they have dried out timber beams and wooden slats in walls to support plaster walls. When they catch fire the incineration moves fast.

The fire breaks the back window and gets inside. Boom.

(14,014 posts)Boston has had some of the strongest, early fire regulations and building codes, due to numerous fires dating back to colonial times. It's had it share of conflagrations and has learned from them. Now imagine if this row of building were wood instead of brick. The entire block could have gone up on this very windy day.
People just have to be careful. Fire can spred anywhere people live. We don't know the cause of the blaze at this point. Let's wait and see.
