Ukraine leader Turchynov warns of far-right threat
Source: BBC
Ukraine's interim president Olexander Turchynov has condemned the ultra-nationalist Right Sector, saying the group is bent on "destabilisation".
Right Sector activists blocked the parliament (Rada) building in Kiev on Thursday night and smashed windows.
They blamed the interior minister for the killing of a Right Sector leader.
Meanwhile, ousted President Viktor Yanukovych has called for a national referendum to determine each region's "status within Ukraine".

(90,061 posts)(Reuters) - Russia's defence minister told President Vladimir Putin on Friday that all Ukrainian servicemen loyal to Kiev had left Crimea and the Russian flag was flying over all military sites on the Black Sea peninsula.
Warships, war planes and other military hardware seized by Moscow will be returned to the Ukrainian army, Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu told Putin at meeting with senior Russian military officers.
"The recent events in Crimea were a serious test," Putin was quoted by Russian news agencies as saying.
"They demonstrated both the completely new capabilities of our Armed Forces and the high morale of the personnel."

(90,061 posts)Russian president Vladimir Putin has said Ukraine could regain some arms and equipment belonging to military units in Crimea that did not switch their loyalty to Russia.
Russian forces took control of Ukrainian military installations in Crimea this month after Moscow formally annexed the Black Sea peninsula. Some Ukrainian servicemen reportedly joined Russian forces, while others withdrew.
Defence minister Sergei Shoigu has told Mr Putin the Ukrainian withdrawal from Crimea is complete, Russian news agencies reported.
Mr Putin approved his minister's proposal to turn over arms and equipment of the units still loyal to Ukraine, the reports said. No specifics were given on quantities, types of hardware, or timing.

(4,856 posts)we've backed another group of crazies and made ourselves look hypocritical. The neocons win again. Bill Kristol would like to give a big thank you to the many here at DU who supported the violent coup and helped get the neocons what they wanted. You've proved invaluable once again.

(4,856 posts)of this coup seem to have quit defending it in the last few days. The evidence has become irrefutable against what they would have liked to believe. If anyone of them want to keep defending Obama on this one I'd love to hear their reasoning. Come on folks tell us how it was a good thing, please.

(4,856 posts)the people of Ukraine are looking at years of financial suffering much worse than previously. Hence the reason they don't even want to tell that what measures will be implemented until after the election. I wonder what Tocqueville might say about Iraq.
