Karen Santorum: Rick Will Do ‘Nothing’ On Contraception

Source: Talking Points Memo

Karen Santorum on Monday assured women that they have “nothing to fear” from her husband.

“He’s completely supportive of women,” she told CNN’s Piers Morgan. “He’s surrounded by a lot of really strong women. Women have nothing to fear when it comes to contraceptives.”

But Rick Santorum has been a vocal critic of contraceptive coverage and use by women. He recently voiced support for the now-defeated Blunt amendment, which would allow employers to deny contraception coverage. And Santorum’s book criticizes women who choose to work outside the home — a passage he says his wife is actually responsible for. Now, Santorum says the contraception debate is just a media “gotcha” trick.

Karen Santorum insisted her husband will do “nothing” on the issue of contraception.

Seems like ol' Mitt and Rick send their wives out to give a 'softer' side to their extremist positions. The wives are saying, 'my husband's okay ladies, no need to worry.' Sorry Karen S. and Ann R., only fools (GOPers) would believe you.

And because of that, all the more reason not to listen to a word she says. Anything that comes out of her mouth will be only by permission of her husband and his cronies. She's a fool, in my mind, for marrying a man that would treat her as a second-rate human. It is obvious that Santorum has some real issues with the female gender, especially those females who are empowered and capable.

Yes this is unbelievable and incredulous. Incredulous Karen, that means it is not credible. Why would anyone believe that after what your husband has said, on record, during his entire career. He does not mince his words. Women have nothing to fear from him as long as he never gets into power. This is about as believable as saying Jews had nothing to fear from Hitler!

Tue Mar 20, 2012, 12:31 PM

Lots and lots of problems with this statement by yet another clueless, hypocritical Republican wifey.

But among others:

1) The Church opposes contraception; is Rick breaking with the church?

2) Ricky often opposes at least "abortion." In fact, that's one of his core positions and issues. Abortion is a form of contraception.

3) Though on the face of things the two oppose abortion? Karen herself, as recently reported in the Daily Mail, lived with an abortion doctor, for many, many years.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2087812/Rick-Santorums-wife-Karen-love-affair-abortion-doctor.html

4) Jesus warned us that the religious conservatives of his own time - the Pharisees - were "hypocrites." And indeed they are.

He may do nothing pro-active against women, but his rhetoric has given the green light for the truly nut jobs of the GOP to start legislating every conceivable anti-women legislation possible at every level, from the local municipal to the federal. He will do nothing to stop or stymie them.

Will he veto a repressive anti-woman bill? No, he'll do "nothing".

This is a steaming pile of bullshit. The Republicans have already proven they're willing to use the power of the government to enact Christian theocracy-based laws. And I'm suppose to believe they won't, just this once?

37. Santorum wants to end Title X funding - contraception for 5 million
Tue Mar 20, 2012, 01:32 PM
Mar 2012
She must not have listened at all those debates

Title X provides access to birth control for 5 million people. Now. Today. Title X has been in place since 1970. Each and every GOP candidate has (now) promised to gut the program. Republicans have supported Title X in the past. Now they don’t. That’s a substantive, radical change in position, and one they should have to explain. I know, I know, it’s LOW INCOME people, so they’re invisible and it doesn’t really matter, but 5 million people is a lot of people. President Obama and Democrats in Congress support Title X. Romney and Santorum and Republicans in Congress don’t. That’s a choice Republicans made, and it’s not a rhetorical or political difference. It’s 5 million people, access to birth control. They have it now, and they will lose it if any Republican wins.
...
Excellent. Except, here is Santorum, five days later, at the Arizona presidential debate:

“As Congressman Paul knows, I opposed Title X funding. I’ve always opposed Title X funding, but it’s included in a large appropriation bill that includes a whole host of other things,” Santorum said.
“What I did, because Title X was always pushed through . . . I said, well, if you’re going to have Title X funding, then we’re going to create something called Title XX, which is going to provide funding for abstinence-based programs.”
