Gubernatorial candidate to hand out Klan hoods

Source: Yahoo News

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Democratic candidate for governor Brett Hulsey plans to hand out white Ku Klux Klan-style hoods to Wisconsin Republicans as they gather for their annual convention Friday to highlight what he says are their racist policies.

Hulsey, a state representative from Madison who is white, came into the state Capitol press room on Thursday to show off a hood he says he made with his daughter's sewing machine using curtain material he purchased for $1.

"It's a Wisconsin Republican Party hat," Hulsey said. "And people can interpret it any way they want."

When asked whether he was serious, trying to be funny or provocative, Hulsey answered: "All of the above."

I think his heart's in the right place, but considering the pictures (the kids apparently call them "optics" these days) that could dog him as a result, he seems to be in serious need of solid campaign advice.

Context is everything, and this will bite him firmly on the behind.

Ditto. Idiot.

His schtick is this kind of shit. It's always about how much attention he can garner for himself.

He's only running for Gov because he's such a jackass that he doesn't stand a chance of keeping his very Dem seat in the state legislature.

He doesn't stand a chance of winning the Gov primary either. He won't even get close, but that won't stop him from causing as much embarrassment as possible on the way out.

The only saving grace for me is that he wasn't born in WI. That kind of stupid is imported.

Since the party supports a womans right to choose, it'd be fine? Thats they way a lot on the right see it, so its OK?
This is why our political system is going down the crapper; because everyone should have a problem with stunts like either of those regardless of their party.
If anyone makes an ass of themselves, I'd prefer it to be someone from the OTHER party.

On Fri May 2, 2014, 12:27 PM an alert was sent on the following post:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1014&pid=794080

REASON FOR ALERT

This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate.

ALERTER'S COMMENTS

Author says "Trying not to bash Democrats." in another thread. But this post seems WAY over the line about the democratic party, given Republican apologetics for Cliven Bundy slavery remarks, and right wing race baiting tactics like the Southern Strategy, welfare queens, Paul Ryan talking about inner city culture, etc

This post screams right wing concern troll

You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Fri May 2, 2014, 12:32 PM, and the Jury voted 1-6 to LEAVE IT.

Juror #1 voted to HIDE IT

Juror #2 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: To the Alerter: 1)Jjudgment can only be made on THIS post only, not on other posts that a poster may or may not have made; 2) you go on and on about "Clive Bundy," "Paul Ryan," etc. when this post has NOTHING to do with any of those and, finally, 3) STOP WASTING PEOPLE'S TIME ON IDIOTIC ALERTS!

Juror #4 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE

Juror #5 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #6 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: This post itself to me is not hide worthy, although the poster may have some issues elsewhere
Juror #7 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Sounds like the alerter is trying to drag a personal dispute across threads. The alerted post makes a good point...are Dems doing enough inre racism?...and it certainly doesn't violate TOS.

Thank you very much for participating in our Jury system, and we hope you will be able to participate again in the future.

I think most of them have a different opinion, from what I've read.
But go ahead and support stunts like this. It will do nothing to enhance the image of the democratic party. And it seems the rest of the Democratic field in that race have condemned him as well.

Google his name and "inappropriate touching" and look at the news articles from when he plead no contest to a charge he got at a public beach two years ago.

If the GOP was slick they could find some Black Republicans and send them over to him to receive the hoods he says he will be handing out.

Of the Google because I have no idea who this guy is. Is he a serious candidate? Have they had their primary yet? What other outlandish things has he done or is he known for? Etc.

Looks like he's a primary oddball type. What it does is give the news outlets a reason to run headlines like "Democrat plans to pass out KKK hoods" without mentioning who the guy actually is.

Interesting observation. My first thought upon reading of his predilection was that he has been paid by some repub to troll as a Dem. My next step is to run him through open secrets to see who he had donated to, if anyone. He comes up blank.

Really? You don't look things up? I get people on FB who are constantly posting pictures of missing kids and puppies that, if one takes a MOMENT to look up, are already found. At first I would reply 'found' but that became tiresome after awhile. At that point I figured they were just trolling the rest of us. Now I find that there are people who not only don't search, they look suspiciously upon those of us that do.

Mind. Blown.

As opposed to Republicans searching for bogus claims that 'their' side makes;

Oh, wait, I'd say that most of the claims are made by Fox, Savage, Hannity, Rush, etc... and what Republican wants to check ANYTHING that might cause aspersion on their indoctrination or in the case of politicians, their chances of reelection.

BTW, are you one of the ones, in either category?

It doesn't take a search here. As a sitting State Assembly Rep, he's famous for his questionable public and private behavior in the second largest city in the state.

What you won't read in any articles (except maybe in the WI forum) is that he's abandoning his Assembly seat to do this because this "Dem" doesn't stand a chance in his very Dem district in Madison.

Some people don't deserve to call themselves Democrat, and they certainly don't deserve our support, even when, like a broken clock, the occasionally manage to say the right thing.

Though I still think it is chuckle worthy.

Where I come down on the wider conversation is, silence supports the status quo. For too long now we are encouraged not to do or say things that make the privileged uncomfortable. That some how it sets back our cause and loses us the support of those that empathize with our plight. What is clear to me is that "silence changes nothing". Not making some uncomfortable give the impression that all is good. All is clearly not good. We should be calling things what they are.

Lately I have taken to saying "Violence has only one name. Violence"! Every other name we put on it is an adjective. Rape, racism, homophobia, murder, war all descriptors of the same violence. But that is just me.
