Waseca teen accused in school shooting plot had been planning for months
Source: Minneapolis Star Tribune
WASECA, MINN. John David LaDue had it all figured out. He would kill his mother, father and sister and then create a diversion to keep first responders busy while he went to Waseca Junior/Senior High School to wreak havoc.
There, the 17-year-old planned to set off pressure-cooker bombs full of nails and metal ball bearings in the cafeteria. Students who werent maimed or killed would be gunned down in the halls, he told police.
After his arrest Tuesday, the high school junior said he intended to kill as many students as he could, before he was killed by the SWAT team, according to charging documents filed in Waseca County District Court.
LaDue was charged Thursday with four counts of attempted first-degree murder, two counts of first-degree damage to property and six counts of possession of a bomb by someone under 18.

(8,519 posts)and you extrapolate that to "be afraid of children"? I'm not sure what's more insane.
Don't believe me? Substitute any other category of human for "kids" in your sentence and say that out loud.
I'm not sure we are safe from our neighbors anymore.
I'm not sure we are safe from blacks anymore.
I'm not sure we are safe from whites anymore.
I'm not sure we are safe from adults anymore.
I'm not sure we are safe from women anymore.
Go to the library and read some newspapers from the 1800's. People have been whacking out since ever. The "kids these days" BS helps nothing and only labels an entire class of people unfairly.

(23,156 posts)to be a paradise of safety, I suggest they read Farmer Boy by Laura Ingalls Wilder.
The older boys at school brag that a teacher never completes a term, because they always beat him up and he leaves. Last term they beat the teacher so badly he died.
Yes, humans are collectively and individually violent and dangerous. We've been doing terrible things to each other since the mythical Cain and Abel. Fortunately, only a minority of us are violent and dangerous.

The article certainly makes him sound motivated and the planning that he went into doesn't appear to be that of someone suffering disorganized thoughts.
I'm sure that he'll get a psych eval, but by that time this story will have fallen off the radar.

(951 posts)WTF. This reminds me of the school shooting of the other kid who had lots of guns. And no supervision of their personal life. The facebook page post alluding to guns solving problems. The notebooks, the bombs at home. What kind of mentality are they breeding?? If we do not think it is appropriate for children/teens to drink, and acknowledge their limitations in psycho-social development, why are we giving them guns and expecting a good outcome??

The tests would need to be subtle enough to flag the potential killers even if the takers were attempting to "fool" the testers.
The process take about 30 minutes every other year.
There could be some unintended negative effects as well. Feel free to chime in your thoughts.

It wouldn't hurt to include them in the test.

One can only conclude that God is a totally sadistic and amoral bastard who revels in creating havoc and random killing.
I prefer to believe that God is not involved in any of these incidents.

(9,990 posts)seems to be a big part of the story with a lot of these kids. Did his parents never go into his room? How did he get the money to buy all this stuff, let alone rent the storage unit? There is something to be said for some parental involvement, aka "nosiness". It's not like you have to snoop in a kid's room, but you should know what your kid is up to at least most of the time!
