WASHINGTON (AP) - The Republican chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee is subpoenaing Secretary of State John Kerry to testify this month on the deadly 2012 attack in Benghazi, Libya.
Rep. Darrell Issa of California wants Kerry to appear before the panel on May 21 about why emails released this week by a conservative watchdog were omitted from previous administration submissions to Congress.
The email from deputy national security adviser Ben Rhodes shows that within days of the attack the White House embraced talking points for U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice that blamed the turmoil that erupted in North African and Middle East cities in September 2012 on an anti-Islamic video.
U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans died in the attack.

Friday, Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA.) subpoenaed Secretary of State John Kerry to testify on the Y 2012 attack on the American diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya.
Mr. Issa, chairs the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, and he Tweeted that that e has summoned Mr. Kerry to testify on 21 May, when the committee holds a public hearing on the matter.
Mr. Issa has started that the US State Department has and continues to show a disturbing disregard for its legal obligations to Congress when it comes to producing documents on the matter.
A State Department official said that Mr. Kerry is scheduled to be in Mexico on 21 May, adding that is something Mr. Issas committee would have known if they had reached out to us instead of issuing a subpoena by Tweet.
The official said it is unclear if Mr. Kerry is even aware of the request and said the department is surprised by Mr. Issas subpoena, given State officials have been cooperating all along with the committee.

(CNN) - House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa announced Friday he has subpoenaed Secretary of State John Kerry to testify about the terror attack in Benghazi.
The California Republican called on Kerry to appear at a May 21 hearing.
Republicans have accused the Obama administration of withholding documents from Congress that were previously subpoenaed.
"The State Department's response to the congressional investigation of the Benghazi attack has shown a disturbing disregard for the department's legal obligations to Congress," Issa wrote in a letter to Kerry.
"Compliance with a subpoena for documents is not a game. Because your department is failing to meet its legal obligations, I am issuing a new subpoena to compel you to appear before the committee to answer questions about your agency's response to the congressional investigation of the Benghazi attack."
The State Department said Kerry was traveling in Africa and it was not clear if he was aware of the subpoena.

At the same time, Rep. Darrell Issa, the Republican chairman of the House oversight committee, issued a subpoena to force Secretary of State John Kerry to testify about the attacks.

(7,577 posts)what does an asshat like Issa expect to learn from Kerry? NOTHING!!
And let's remember when Rice was called to testify before the committee....she was "too busy"....a Republican Secretary of State under a Republican President.....but if Kerry does not show up...because he will be in Mexico that day...OMG!!! Is Issa going to hold Kerry in contempt? Rice wasn't....but funny how the same situation is SO different when recons control the House...
Issa just plain SUCKS!!!!!!
