GOP Sen. Hutchison defends Planned Parenthood, rips Rick Perry
By Jonathan Easley - 03/22/12 10:13 AM ET
Republican Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (Texas) on Thursday defended Planned Parenthood and criticized Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) for excluding the organization from the states healthcare program.
I think Planned Parenthood does mammograms, they do so much of the healthcare, the preventative healthcare, and if theyre doing that, then we need to provide those services, absolutely, Hutchison said on MSNBC.
Federal law states that a womans right to choose any healthcare clinic is a prerequisite if the state is to receive Medicaid funding for its Womens Health Program.
Last year, the Texas Legislature passed a law that bans state funding for clinics that provide abortion services. Planned Parenthood is the largest provider of abortions in the country, though the organization predominantly deals with family planning and womens health services.

(793 posts)I guess if you figure in the the 11th commandment to RePUG manual and never say anything bad about the dead, Mr Perry, then the Senator from Texas is ripping someone. Perhaps anyone that listens to her spiel!

All in the peanut gallery, egging on the republican rapists is where she was with all the rest, revelling over the GOP's total takeover of the State of Texas.

(4,157 posts)I certainly think that most Texans know better.
Furthermore, with changing demographics, it's really just a question of time before that great Repuke bastion changes hands to the progressives. Of course republican white people don't want to hear anything on those lines, as they're terrified of all those "brown people" who are going to take over!!!!

(11,304 posts)only want whats best for all of us. I just can't understand that crazy thinking. Does anyone think people of color want bad things to happen? No I don't and I am white. If they think that way then this country will go down. United we stand, divided we fall. A lovely 5th Dimension song.

RMoney resembles a tossed coin as much as his stances are perfectly displayed on an Etch a Sketch.
Yet, he is the anointed, appointed, coronated pick of the braintrust that is today's GOP.
The only reason that the Grinch and Frothy remain in it, is because they appeal to a particular and peculiar group of nuts, with the driving force being conservative interpretations of their two volume collection of fairy tales. BUt they cannot gather the entire GOP together, so they are left to throw spitballs at RMoney's slithery back.
Perry, on the other hand, had the ability to excite the christian base, as well as the economic base, given the way he has approached Texas governing. He would have been the most potent opponent, even more dangerous than RMoney, except for one thing. Back surgery.
He has been taking heavy doses of pain pills, which have one notable side effect. They don't really kill pain so much as make you not care about it. That side effect? confusion, memory loss, slowing of the mind.
If not for his recent back surgery, a healthy, vibrant, and ultra-conservative Perry would have posed a far greater danger than RMoney.

(25,111 posts)low income families, mostly women who will have no insurance coverage now which adds to the other uninsured for Texas. Texas has the highest or next to the highest uninsured people in the nation. Way to go GOPs and their so called "Christians" love for humanity.

(7,574 posts)I expected more from her. She's always been pro-choice, but seldom if never said so. She's way too late for my likes, but I guess better late than never. She's been a lapdog for the right wing in this state & country - too bad. She could have used her position to at least be another voice of reason.

(36,974 posts)The only Republican senator (of the five republican female senators) that voted March 1st against the Blunt amendment was Olympia Snowe.
Senator Lisa Murkowski came out against the Blunt amendment only 'after' she voted 'for' it.
I'm very disappointed in Collins, Hutchison, Murkowski, and Ayotte!

No, thank you, McCain, Hutchison, and Murkowski!! We know that you don't really care about women because your votes show it!!!
