Losing contest makes Omaha teen a winner: He gets to meet Chuck Hagel, present film at POW/MIA...

WASHINGTON — It was a surprising blow for Justin Myers earlier this year when he failed to advance past the state level in the National History Day competition.

The 15-year-old Omahan had qualified for the national contest in three previous years and claimed one first-place finish.

For this year’s project, he had devoted six months to researching and assembling a documentary focused on the history of identifying and recovering the remains of fallen U.S. military personnel.

Snip: The video quickly went viral in certain military circles. By the following day, he had received an invitation to present the film at last week’s annual gathering of the National League of POW/MIA Families in Washington, D.C.
