(CNN) -- The embattled head of the Internal Revenue Service blames faulty technology for what he called serious problems under investigation by Congress, the Justice Department and the Treasury inspector general.
John Koskinen told CNN's Wolf Blitzer on Thursday that he apologized to anyone who had their application for tax-exempt status held up by IRS targeting of political labels.
"The improper criteria used to highlight organizations for investigation just by their name was a mistake," Koskinen said. "I apologize to anybody who ever had their applications held up needlessly. Everybody needs to be confident that the IRS is going to treat them fairly no matter who they are. Republicans, Democrats, whatever organization they belong to. So it's a serious matter."
However, he maintained that evidence uncovered so far by six investigations found no involvement by the White House, as alleged by some Republicans.

(113,091 posts)claimed by the GOP. Lost emails from 2009-early2011 wouldn't be relevant to GOP's charge in May2012 that IRS was targeting ONLY RW groups for scrutiny (didn't happen) and were doing it to prevent them from participating in the 2012 election.
Anyone present a logical explanation for why the IRS would deliberately get rid of emails from 2009-early2011 and NOT any of the emails generated from 2011 through 2012?
and bonus question: Since the inquiry was launched in May2012, did the WH use the same time machine to note the computer crashed back in 2011 that they used to go back 5 decades to plant birth notices in Hawaii papers?
The question is about the 2010 midterms and the rise of the tea party. That's why 2009-2011 is relevant.
Or irrelevant as the case may be.

(113,091 posts)turning in AFTER the Citizen's United ruling and AFTER the 2010 election.
So - basically no one can explain why the earlier emails are significant and germaine but the emails turned over from 2011 through 2012 are somehow NOT?

(185 posts)Logical explanation? For the same reason Nixon got rid of a few minutes of a tape and not later tapes. It had something on it that Nixon (and maybe the IRS in this case) don't want exposed.
How can you possibly say the emails are not relevant if you don't know what is on them?
Maybe the IRS should have followed the law, like they expect us to do. I have no compassion for the IRS. They make life hell for people.

(32,052 posts)hence IRS continues to be in the news, with the media CONTINUING its usual negligence of NOT informing people that: not a SINGLE Tea Party group ever got DENIED tax-exempt status. Or, has the media ever moved beyond the typical partisan sniping to actually start a national conversation about 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4)?
LBN should contain whichever political topics are in the headlines. And we as DUers can dissect the news from a left-wing POV. I've been posting at LBN for the past 5 years, so I'm far from a troll.

(8,032 posts)Cuz they sound like Poes to me.
"The dog ate my hard drive...and it was the ONLY place in the vast network of email servers and backup systems that the emails were ever stored. Because, 1988."
Wake up. When taxpayers lose faith in the neutrality and fairness of the IRS, the system of voluntary compliance with tax law will crumble. Which means we become Greece, where tax avoidance is an art form.
What real Democrat would think providing political cover to liars "on our team" is worth defunding the Treasury????
Jesus H. Fuckstick, this bullshit is to no one's benefit.

(113,091 posts)scrutinized and ordered him to NOT include any other groups in his audit. By accepting the GOPs narrative that only their groups were targeted is to further a LIE - furthering a lie will restore confidence, in your book?
Issa, in essense, set up the 'appearance' of a scandal to FRAME the WH for actions it never took, and a crashed computer from early 2011 is now supposed to have deliberately destroyed emails in response to Issa's inquiry which began in May2012?
Consult a calendar.

(113,091 posts)When has giving in to the bullshit spewed by manufactured 'scandals' ever proven helpful?
When media and some Dems began accepting the GOP narrative about the anti-Islam film and their claim that the video had no role in the attack in Benghazi it became HARDER for the facts to break through the wall of BS.
