Christie to Test Presidential Hopes in Iowa
Source: New York Times
Gov. Chris Christie of New Jersey will make his most significant and elaborate return to the presidential arena this week amid indications that, despite his tribulations, his political standing has stabilized and his advisers see a possible path to the Republican nomination in 2016.
Mr. Christies three-city swing through Iowa, the first state to have a say on the presidential race, will represent a highly public resumption of his White House ambitions after six months of scandal. It was deliberately constructed to showcase what his advisers believe distinguishes him from the emerging Republican field: his personality and ability to interact spontaneously with ordinary people.
The Iowa trip and a second planned for New Hampshire on July 31 hint at what his backers said was a larger, delicate, post-lane-closing strategy for selling a potential Christie candidacy to wary donors and a broader Republican base. The strategy aims to demonstrate that whatever the Tea Party and ideological appeal of his would-be rivals, they lack his gift for, and enjoyment of, street-level retail politics.
There are plenty of reasons for skepticism of the Christie strategy: Three investigations are still churning, with no end in sight, and the sheer volume of embarrassing revelations about the Christie administrations conduct and culture could ultimately doom his presidential chances.

(2,419 posts)but the U.S. Attorney is circling him like a shark! He's going to need a bigger boat!
The U.S. Attorney's Office has asked the New Jersey legislative committee investigating Bridgegate to refrain from calling a range of potential witnesses out of concern that their testimonies could interfere with an ongoing federal criminal investigation, according to a source close to the matter.
Those on the do not call to testify list include Gov. Chris Christie's chief political adviser, Michael DuHaime, who had several conversations with Christie and Port Authority figures as the controversy grew late last year, and Mark Sokolich, the mayor of Fort Lee, where the lane closures occurred. In fact, the list of those whom the committee has been asked not to subpoena is so long that "no one of note" can currently be called to testify, the source said.

(297,810 posts)read Christie was testing waters in Iowa.. "But, how's the investigation going on in his state?".
Christie's such a sociopath.. he could be on trail for murder and if they let him.. he'd be out campaigning and saying he was "so over it".

(7,321 posts)Seen all over DU for months, despite history's warnings and reminders of Fitz Christmas. There's some sort of strange political amnesia which seems to inflict some in our tribe repeatedly, and denial or inability to understand just how deeply corrupt our system is and always has been.

(60,536 posts)was incorrect. Apparently, however, you're one of those folks that believe the old adage "one swallow does not a Summer make" is completely wrong. "One swallow does a summer make" and insulting other DU'ers is more to your liking.

(7,321 posts)Your op wasn't an example of gleeful frenzy I'm talking about the joyful reaction that occurred when all of the bridgegate news reports started coming out. months ago. (or has it been a year already?) as if he was all but done for, just a matter of time for the process to take it's course. I don't quite get why you took what I wrote to be a personal insult on your op.

(18,124 posts)just like I said at the start of this 'bridgegate' affair, lot's of smoke and mirrors, but in the final analysis, nothing will be done about this individuals corruption. American political corruption on the state and national levels is a protected right of the 1%ers. I said NOTHING will happen to chrisite and I stand by that statement. All the "gleeful frenzy" is a correct analysis of the presumptive people who figured christie was a cooked turkey. I remember it, and well, so far they have been wrong.

(7,321 posts)I was one of those caught up in the gleeful frenzy, glued to every word reported in print and spoken on cable for months and months. We all were. Listening to Mike Malloy one night and he gets a call from someone in DC in the know, warning us that it wasn't going to happen. Rove was not going to be frogged marched off to justice, and we'd all better come to grips with that. It was heartbreaking. When this Bridgegate matter came up, it was like watching the same thing all over again. We'd all seen that movie before, not long ago. One wouldn't know it though with all of the OP's on DU insisting Christie's going down.

(18,124 posts)I didn't even give it a second thought. Out of the question. Period. Just like the war criminals, bush and cheney, in the docket at the Hague, never happen. Christie will not see a day in court. Maybe some patsies, but not him.

(5,803 posts)What Cristie's campaign managers are thinking:
"The American voter is too stupid/misinformed/uninformed to know/understand/remember about the corruption/scandals/lack of ethics."
"We can count on the mainstream media to downplay the scandals and neglect to inform the public of the facts."
"If we spin this the right way, he's viable."
"If we spend enough money on teevee ads, we can convince the American public of anything."
"Propaganda works."
I sure hope they're wrong.
