Conyers holds off Sheffield, is poised to become dean of Congress
Source: Detroit Free Press
The pending retirement of U.S. Rep. John Dingell means U.S. Rep. John Conyers is poised to become the dean of the U.S. House of Representatives after fending off a primary challenge Tuesday.
The Rev. Horace Sheffield III, a pastor and community activist who nearly succeeded in getting Conyers bounced from the ballot, came up short after a hard-fought campaign.
With 78% of precincts reporting, Conyers was leading Sheffield 75% to 25%.
Conyers said the drama surrounding the ballot issue did nothing to derail the issues at hand. He wants to continue the work hes doing, and work to make sure more Democrats attain office in Congress.

Conyers is a progressive icon. He even once posted on DU! He's willing to raise issues seldom discussed in mainstream media including the impeachment of Bush and challenging Ohio's electoral votes in 2004. In the meantime, Democrats in Detroit need to recruit a GOOD progressive to succeed Conyers in 2016, since he's likely retiring by then.

(53,661 posts)Then came 2010 and we have been treated to one Issagate after another with no search for peace, justice or the truth, all just to bring down the Democratic President.
I'm ecstatic he'll still be with us and representing WeThePeople again. Not WeTheCorporateMedia who are doing Segretti's work on steroids.
Sadly, I wonder what he would think of DU for the last few years. Maybe this place will improve.
Thanks for posting this as well as that link to DU2. It does Skinner and Crew proud...
