Burger King nixes lower-calorie 'Satisfries'

Source: AP-Excite

By CANDICE CHOI

NEW YORK (AP) — Burger King is getting rid of its lower-calorie french fries at most restaurants after less than a year.

The Miami-based chain said in a statement that it gave its franchisees the option to continue selling the french fries earlier this week. Only about 2,500 of the approximately 7,400 locations in the U.S. and Canada opted to continue selling them as a permanent item. The others have started phasing them out.

The french fries, called "Satisfries," were a big bet for Burger King when they were announced in September. But they weren't as well received as Burger King had hoped.

The name was mocked in some corners, with one website referring to them as "Saddest Fries." There also is some confusion about their caloric superiority, with a small order still containing 270 calories. A small order of McDonald's fries, by comparison, has 230 calories because the serving weighs less.

Ugh, I knew they were a bomb the moment I smelled them. Tasteless. Whoever rolled those out should be fired retroactively to the day that satisfries showed up on the menu.

I wasn't a big hit with the R&D guys because I kept telling them "no matter what you make, if it doesn't taste good, it won't sell, no matter what healthy promises you make!" I think BK should always keep that in mind. aybe the best suggestion would be to sell the "tasty fries" in a smaller portion thus LOWER CALORIES!

Now that would be a worthy headline.

I can't see how Shitburger Jr.'s menu modifications qualify as news. Even when it's negatively inflected, it's still PR for the sellers of hot grease smeared on poison buns.

is so much better than anything Burger King has. Their grilled flautas are just amazing. And the customer service at the one near me is awesome. My son ordered a Santa Fe Burrito one time. It turned out it was too spicy for him so I went up to get him something else. and paid for it. When the employee brought it to the table, she saw the burrito hadn't been eaten. She asked what was wrong and we explained that it was too hot. No big deal, it was his fault for ordering something he couldn't eat. Nothing even close to the fault of the restaurant or the employees. But she gave him free dessert. She was very sweet.
