Sharpton to Address Mike Brown's St. Louis Funeral

Source: AP-ABC News

The funeral for 18-year-old Michael Brown is scheduled for Monday at a church in St. Louis.

The Austin A. Layne Mortuary, which is handling arrangements, says the funeral is set for 10 a.m. Monday at Friendly Temple Missionary Baptist Church. Brown's uncle, the Rev. Charles Ewing, will deliver the eulogy, and the Rev. Al Sharpton will also speak.

Brown will be buried at St. Peter's Cemetery in St. Louis County.

Brown, who was black, was killed Aug. 9 by white Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson. The shooting sparked protests and more than a week of unrest in the predominantly black St. Louis suburb.

Which is their choice, however, I wish Rev. Al, Jesse and the like would STEP OUT THE WAY (and the way of cameras, pictures along with more of the spotlight) and let the Ferguson community, residents and people lead here.

However, if the family agreed to this...I can understand. If it was my family, we would tell Al and Jesse to STAY HOME. We have our own civil rights/religious support community. If anyone would need "face time" it should be individuals who've supported us all along -- before the tragedy, IMHO.

is typically asked into these situations.

Although many people loathe him, Black people always turn to Al Sharpton because he has always championed these issues. When no one else would take up the cause about police brutality and racial cop killings, the Rev would. He was a resource to our community when people outside of it said we were crazy and sought to shit all over us. Think about it......where are the Black conservatives on this issue?

Jesse is another issue. But all in all, if this is what the family wanted, whats the problem?

The Family must have wanted this. Personally, local leaders in and surround Ferguson could have did anything the Rev. Al did but oh well, he is on the scene (or more camera FACETIME is more like it) now...

getting ready to host the Cable TV Show of his namesake. He has not been back since the Family rally service at the church, were he Auctioned for $100.00's and $50.00's, saying it was a for an "offering" on National TV, for the Brown family...(instead of taking the offering in PRIVATE -- which should have been DONE -- hello ask for the cameras OFF Rev. Al). We talked about this on our award winning podcast, here: http://j.mp/IURLEpisode338

It appears he (Rev. Al) will not be back until Sunday night or early Monday morning to show his face again for Mike Brown's memorial service, which will be nationally televised (as it should). Then the Rev. Al will be back to the Studio on Tuesday for more FRONT FACE camera time on MSNBC.

If you don't see a problem in this, well....even Stevie Wonder can see when someone is trying to play him for a fool. However, some like being played.

Meanwhile, it was the Nation of Islam and the New Black Panther Party who have been ON THE GROUND in Ferguson since Monday, working with LOCALS in the community to end the protests violence and train the youngsters how to engage in peaceful protests/civil disobedience.

Seems as if the NOI and NBPP training worked as Tuesday night was for the most part, peaceful in Ferguson. Oh, and neither of these organizations have asked, demanded, requested or desire FACETIME in front of a camera to promote themselves....as they are in Ferguson for the people of this community. PERIOD!

And Rev. Al is back at his studio getting more face time today, starting at 6:00 pm ET. Typical.

Come on this is not hard to understand. Stop asking questions you KNOW the answer for, okay.

OF COURSE he has had Facetime from this case, since the second day after Mike Brown's murder. Constantly in one form or other in FRONT of the camera. Period. That's the truth and that's is what's called opportunist FACETIME.

Also, no, we are not receiving any "FACETIME" for our podcast. It's a podcast, not a TV show.

In this case, we would not want any resource to interview us about our feelings on the Mike Brown case. If they need to know our thoughts, listen to the podcast.

We are NOT the story. Mike Brown (Victim) and his survivors: Mike Brown, Sr. and Leslie McSpadden are the story.

Maybe Rev. Al should consider the obvious. Just saying....he (Rev. Al) IS NOT the story!

And you are correct it was not self promotion in the articles just various news outlets talking to folks who are there trying to keep peace at the protest and I guess they gave an OK to use their names for the articles

Was in Ferguson Today.....

"U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder made his way to Ferguson on Wednesday, a small group of protesters gathered outside the building where a grand jury could begin hearing evidence to determine whether the police officer who shot 18-year-old Michael Brown should be charged in his death."

I have a problem with your statement, "Decent non racist white people see him as a racebaiter". Decent, non-racist white people.....then you use the word "racebaiter"? Sounds a bit troll like to moi.

The issue with Rev. Al has NOTHING to do about "racebaiting" or "Decent, non-racist white people". The issue is the Rev. Al is a opportunist, that's it, that's all.

Don't try and flip my replies to meet your "agenda". Not-Working-Here!

who while not perfect, is in tune with those he's speaking about.

Complaining about the family's choice of Rev. Al is as patronizing and racist as Hannity, Beck and O'Reilly have been. I don't give a damn if they wanted Farrakhan to say a few words. It's not my son being buried.

Bashing Obama and Holder on this are just as patronizing as the RW pundits telling 'those people' how to handle things. Obama and Holder will not be there because it would be considered an illegal, undue influence which was proven here in the case I cite below. Does anyone at DU remember how this turned out?

I did and so did Obama:

Judge: Obama sex assault comments unlawful command influence.

Two defendants in military sexual assault cases cannot be punitively discharged, if found guilty, because of “unlawful command influence” derived from comments made by President Barack Obama, a judge ruled in a Hawaii military court this week.

Navy Judge Cmdr. Marcus Fulton ruled during pretrial hearings in two sexual assault cases — U.S. vs. Johnson and U.S. vs. Fuentes — that comments made by Obama as commander in chief would unduly influence any potential sentencing, according to a court documents obtained by Stars and Stripes.

On Wednesday and Thursday, Fulton approved the pretrial defense motions, which used as evidence comments that Obama made about sexual assault at a May 7 news conference:

“The bottom line is: I have no tolerance for this,” Obama said, according to an NBC News story submitted as evidence by defense attorneys in the sexual assault cases.

‘I expect consequences,” Obama added. “So I don’t just want more speeches or awareness programs or training, but ultimately folks look the other way. If we find out somebody’s engaging in this, they’ve got to be held accountable — prosecuted, stripped of their positions, court martialed, fired, dishonorably discharged. Period.”

Continued in article:

http://www.stripes.com/judge-obama-sex-assault-comments-unlawful-command-influence-1.225974

to okaawhatever:

He wasn't talking about Johnson or Fuentes, he was making policy. It was in response and support of a bill to end sexual assaults in the military by not allowing them to be swept under the rug by technicalities, such as how good a soldier they'd been otherwise. I believe most fair minded Americans agreed with every word he said, but:

The victim represented by the US never saw justice because of the way that the judge interpreted those words. I think the judge was wrong but that is what happened. So in order to not let that happen again, he cannot visit or say what he thinks on Wilson and all the rest of it.

It's not about him being a coward, not caring, or any of what he's been accused. It's about caring for the victim and his family enough to not have his words used to allow the shooter to escape justice.

His tough talk taken out of context hurt a victim.* Is that not a higher goal than satistfying voyeurs on the net demanding to see him rip into Ferguson PD and the shooter?

Is that cheap thrill worth letting Michael Brown and his community suffer by letting the defense use his words to establish undue influence to free Wilson?

Most of us know damn well that they will. This is a disgrace to talk about a man who is trying to get the best thing done, not go for the political win in the short run and lose the bigger goal of justice.

JMHO!

http://www.democraticunderground.com/10025408241#post108

*Note, he recieved little praise on DU for that tough speech in the interview on his stance, either, only fault finding that there were any rapes going on at all. Obama has two daughters and is called the First Feminist President by some women. Why think he doesn't care?

http://www.democraticunderground.com/10025408826#post66

It's not for lack of caring that he's not there, nor is he or Holder not in the loop. They sent the FBI, done another autopsy, and are making a case that will change things in Feguson in the future, which is what the people there really want.

I expect the DOJ is going to make a case the PD will not be able to escape from and take control of the town's police force. An example of past cases effecting major changes, which got no media coverage or credit at DU:

http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/criminal-justice/law-disorder/17-justice-dept-investigations-into-police-departments-nationwide/

Some people have been thinking about the process involved there:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/10025407386

I'm not ascribing those things to you personally. But DUers need to look at the context.

It's not the right of us as white people to criticize how the Brown family chooses to grieve the death of Michael.

JMHO.
