Missouri official apologizes for racist Facebook posts: I was a very active Republican at the time

A Poplar Bluff, Missouri City Councilman is being criticized for posting what some consider to be racist images of President Barack Obama on his Facebook wall, KFVS reports.
At a city council meeting Monday night, Reverend Tommy Robinson said that Councilman Peter Tinsleys posts were blatantly offensive. To come from a city council member, a city government official, this is highly unthought of, even in Poplar Bluff, he said. Im highly upset over this, along with the residents of our ward.
The photographs published include this one opposing the Affordable Care Act:

Tinsley apologized on Monday, saying that at one time, I was a very active Republican, very opposed to Obama. I want people to know that I am very remorseful for it. It was inappropriate. I believe I got caught up in an emotional moment of sharing jokes. It seemed funny at the time but today its very serious and its not funny at all.

Nothing a republican ever does has value anymore, with a few exceptions.

(28,581 posts)Maybe- just maybe, something has happened to make him realize that what he posted was racist and wrong. (probably not, but one can hope)
The country really needs this wake up call coming from Missouri. We still have a problem with Racism and pretending we don't just prevents us from finding ways to fix it.
White people, people in power, the media, all just stopped talking about it, pretending it was fixed. It was never fixed. For a while it was just ignored which made it infinitely worse. The amount of black men in prison has done so much damage, that even if the legal system was fixed today, it would take generations to heal that wound.

(6,719 posts)Pretty hilarious that he blames it on being a Republican. So it was OK when you were an active Republican? Thank you for the apology. Please understand that I am wondering what you think about the affordable care act today. Also wonder
how you would feel about a photo of you doctored in a similar way about an issue or cause you may have supported.

(111 posts)Republicans hate being called racist by Blacks, because being called a racist by the victim of racism would be called white racism, as far as Republicans are concerned. It's long past due that educated White men begin calling other white men racist when their actions or words are racist. Blacks should Not have to call any white man a racist. Non-racist White men need to stand up and call out these racist assholes for what they are, white ignorant racists.
