Darrell Issa invites Kathleen Sebelius, Hilda Solis to testify
Source: Politico
Darrell Issas campaign against the White Houses political affairs is escalating.
The House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform chairman invited former Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius and former Secretary of the Labor Department Hilda Solis to testify before the panel on the Hatch Act a law that bars executive branch employees from engaging in political affairs.

Issa is hoping to catch the office, which was restructured during the Obama administration to better comply with the Hatch Act, violating the 20th century law. The office has been recently cleared by the U.S. Office of Special Counsel of wrongdoing since it reopened.
Issa has attempted to build a campaign against the White Houses political affairs issues by accusing Solis of soliciting donations for President Barack Obamas 2012 reelection campaign when she served in the Cabinet.

(70,231 posts)damned if they don't. I have watched some of the hearings in the past--or parts of them. Republicans are rude to put it mildly with their questions. If it were me, I would just stay away from Issa and his pals.
......Earlier this year, he played an audio tape during an Oversight hearing that appears to show Solis asking for funds from a deputy. There is an ongoing law enforcement investigation into Solis remarks, White House press secretary Josh Earnest said at the time.
In 2012, the U.S. Office of Special Counsel found that Sebelius violated the Hatch Act during a speech to the Human Rights Campaign when she said Lt. Gov. Walter Dalton needs to be the next governor of North Carolina.
Sebelius later apologized for the remarks.
The hearing will give the two former secretaries the opportunity to explain their actions and distance the White House from any new Hatch Act Concerns. But Republicans will surely jump on the opportunity to attempt to establish a narrative of political wrongdoing.

A lot of details there. I bet Issa was cheering it on, from wherever he was.
