Iran 'misses' nuclear probe deadline

Source: BBC

Iran has missed a deadline to answer questions about its nuclear programme, the IAEA global nuclear watchdog says.

Iran had agreed to provide information to help allay concerns about a military dimension to its programme, but had failed to do so, the IAEA reported.

These include suspected work on detonators which can set off nuclear bombs and high explosive charges.

It comes weeks before a deadline for Iran and world powers to reach a final deal to resolve the nuclear issue.

Probe of Iran's nuclear program stalls, U.N. report confirms

VIENNA -- A new U.N. report on Iran's nuclear program says that the latest effort to probe allegations of secret work on atomic arms by Tehran has failed to make headway.

Iran and the IAEA agreed in February to a new start to the probe after a decade of deadlock, marked by Tehran's insistence that the allegations were based on falsified intelligence from the United States and arch-foe Israel.

Since then, the U.N. agency has sought information on alleged experiments with detonators that can be used to set off nuclear explosions; separate work on high-explosive charges used in nuclear blasts, and alleged studies on calculating nuclear explosive yields.

The confidential IAEA report, issued Friday, made clear that there has been little progress.

In truth, ISIS creates a situation where it is BOTH our interest and theirs to work to work together on this. It would be remarkable if all this leads to slightly better relationship between the US and Iran.

What is true, is that at the moment, ISIS is the preeminent threat for the P5 nations. I would assume that there are back channel efforts to get Iran to comply.

Which started with Republicans making back-channel efforts while Carter was president.
