Touting military service, Coffman strays beyond conduct code boundaries

Source: Colorado Independent

“I went to the United States Army and the United States Marine Corps,” Coffman said at a debate in Aurora last month. “You went to Harvard and Yale. I don’t know what they taught you about honor and integrity there.” It’s not the first time Coffman has stood on his service to call into question the ethics of others in the world of electoral politics.

He made headlines in 2012 when he called the appearance in uniform of Army Cpl. Jesse Thorsen at a Ron Paul campaign rally an ethical lapse that represented a “grave failure in leadership.”

(...)

So, why then is Coffman now apparently violating those same policies? a Democratic source asks.

A Coffman campaign four-page fold-out flyer...disseminated to district residents includes images of the Congressman in uniform as the “primary graphic representation” (there are no non-military images of Coffman in the flyer) and make no mention of the fact that Coffman retired from the service years ago. That’s a clear violation of at least one and maybe two of the same Defense Department Directives Coffman railed about Army Cpl Thorsen being contemptuous toward or unconscionably ignorant of.

Where was he on the issue when veterans of other wars were discarded?

But then again, as a Paul fan, he was cheering on the death of those unable to pay for insurance. 'The price of liberty' said Paul about an example of a man in a coma who didn't have insurance. This should be brought up again and again.

Along with the privatization of care that resulted in the scandals early on during the Iraq War with vets left in lousy rehabs that were unsanitary and sans help for those with TBI.

And he hadn't noticed when the former veterans home in CA was given over the business community for corporate meetings and parties, while veterans laid on the ground outside the gates, homeless. Property rights are praised by Pauls, but not for the disabled or wounded.

He wants the independent contractor vote in CO of those who profited but think they did it all by themselves. Against taxes, no doubt and won't help care for the wounded from all the wars. I hope the citizens of CO will look beyond the hype and see what this man's political views mean in the real world, not Libertarian pipe dreams.

This may impress the usual repug voter; I doubt that it will help him with the immigrant population he is not used to in the new district.

The rank badge on the epaulettes say he is a major, but the pins on the shirt collar say he is a lieutenant colonel. So which is it?
