Philippines arrests 43 in cybersex raids

Source: AP NewsMANILA, Philippines (AP) — Philippine autho

MANILA, Philippines (AP) — Philippine authorities say they have arrested 43 suspected members of a syndicate that runs a lucrative online cybersex operation catering to clients worldwide.

The Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission said government agents arrested 43 men and women and seized 115 computers in raids on three locations late Wednesday in Dinalupihan town in Bataan province west of Manila.

Police said Thursday that the syndicate operated a website at which clients could ask women to perform lewd acts for a fee.

The government has been cracking down on cybercrimes in recent years. Easy access to the Internet, a relatively low risk of arrest and big financial gains have caused such crimes to flourish in recent years in countries such as the Philippines.

Silly:
In dispiriting news for many outdoor drinking enthusiasts, Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade has admitted that it is mulling draft regulation that would outlaw the sidewalk sale of beer throughout Vietnam.

Funny:
Additionally, the proposed ban would prevent the sale of beer in HOSPITALS, SCHOOLS, and OFFICES. Presumably, thirsty workers and students will still be allowed to BRING THEIR OWN BEER to their respective locations.

President Benigno Aquino III signed a law in 2012 that aimed to combat Internet crimes such as hacking, identity theft, spamming, cybersex, extortion and online child pornography. It was suspended due to legal challenges questioning whether some provisions violated civil liberties, but enforcement of the law resumed in February.

In May, police arrested 58 suspected members of online extortion syndicates that duped hundreds of victims worldwide into exposing themselves in front of webcams or engaging in lewd chats, including a Scottish teenager who committed suicide after being blackmailed.

It is also in the Philippines that you hear about girls being forced/paid to step on small animals.

If they were going after those types, I don't have a problem with this.
Particularly if the women are under duress.

However, you are very right. Unless you are in the "Upper Class" in the Philippines, life there is hard.
People barely earn enough to pay for their transportation and to live.

Their economy(jobs) is almost purely service industry, to the point that when you go to a mall, you get a cashier, a bag stuffer, and someone else to staple the bag to close them.

The better jobs some get are the call centers, and the money that does go around are usually through remittance.

Y'arr!!!
