Man who sued Portland police for brutality wins $562K verdict from jury

PORTLAND, Ore. - A Portland man who accused Portland Police for beating him up during a drunk-driving arrest has won a lawsuit worth over half-a-million dollars against the bureau.

A jury decided on Monday that Officers Jeffrey Elias, Robert Bruders, and Sarah Kerwin committed battery against Jason Cox during the June 28, 2011 incident.

Cox said he feels vindicated, and that he didn’t provoke what happened in the parking lot of the Pallas Club, a strip club in Southeast Portland.

“Vindicated. Wonderful. All the lies that they’d been keeping up until this point all came out in trial,” Cox said.
