Republican Evan Jenkins has bested Democratic Rep. Nick Rahall in West Virginia’s 3rd District, ending the 38-year incumbent’s tenure serving the deep-red district.

Jenkins, the Democrat-turned-Republican, had received 55 percent of the votes when The Associated Press called the race with 81 percent of precincts reporting. Rahall received 45 percent.
