ADP National Employment Report: Private Sector Employment Increased by 230,000 Jobs in October

ROSELAND, N.J. – November 5, 2014 – Private sector employment increased by 230,000 jobs from September to October according to the October ADP National Employment Report®. Broadly distributed to the public each month, free of charge, the ADP National Employment Report is produced by ADP®, a leading global provider of Human Capital Management (HCM) solutions, in collaboration with Moody’s Analytics. The report, which is derived from ADP’s actual payroll data, measures the change in total nonfarm private employment each month on a seasonally-adjusted basis.

Payrolls for businesses with 49 or fewer employees increased by 102,000 jobs in October, up from 93,000 in September. Job growth was up dramatically over the month for medium-sized firms. Employment among companies with 50-499 employees rose by 122,000, well over twice September’s increase of 47,000. Employment at large companies – those with 500 or more employees – saw a big drop from 85,000 the previous month to only 5,000 jobs added in October. Companies with 500-999 employees added 14,000 jobs, up from September’s 8,000. However, this increase was offset by the loss of 8,000 jobs by companies with over 1,000 employees.

Goods-producing employment rose by 48,000 jobs in October, down slightly from 50,000 jobs gained in September. The construction industry added 28,000 jobs over the month, above last month’s gain of 13,000. Meanwhile, manufacturing added 15,000 jobs in October, down by over half from September’s 33,000 which was the highest total in that sector since March 2011.

Service-providing employment rose by 181,000 jobs in October, up from 176,000 in September. The ADP National Employment Report indicates that professional/business services contributed 53,000 jobs in October. Expansion in trade/transportation/utilities grew by 47,000, up from September’s 37,000. The 4,000 new jobs added in financial activities was less than half of last month’s number.

Good morning, Freepers and DUers alike. I especially welcome our good friends from across the aisle. Please, everyone, put aside your differences long enough to digest the information. After that, you can engage in your usual donnybrook.

What is important about these statistics is not so much this month’s number, but the trend. So let’s look at some earlier numbers.

Bureau of Labor Statistics, for employment in September 2014:

Payroll employment increases by 248,000 in September; unemployment rate declines to 5.9%

ADP® (Automatic Data Processing), for employment in September 2014:

ADP National Employment Report Shows 213,000 Jobs Added in September

Bureau of Labor Statistics, for employment in August 2014 (hat tip, Garion 55):

Payroll employment increases in August (+142,000); unemployment rate changes little (6.1%)

The people know we are still short millions of jobs, (we just caught up with 2008 this year) and that the reason the unemployment rate is lower is because there are so few jobs that there is no place for millions to work so they have left the workforce. Yet when that sub group is surveyed by the Feds, millions of them say they WANT work, but can't find a job.

10 million people have moved into poverty in this administration, perhaps 50 million moved nearer, who were not there before 2008. After the 3 million in the previous administration, 4 million families were thrown into the street and the effort to help them has been pathetic at best. Millions of home loans are underwater and will be joined by millions more if interest rates rise - and if interest rates don't rise tens of millions of pensioners will find they still have life to life, and no money. This administration used, and still is using, taxpayer money to inflate the assets of the banks and the wealthy and denying opportunity to people who could use it to help themselves. Don't think so? Read the plan. It is detailed in ex-Treasury Secretary Timothy "killer" Geithner's book Stress Test. The vast majority of those people will remain in poverty, and so will their children unless something which is not on the horizon changes.

Want a pre-view of the election? (yeah, I know, too late). That's what I thought of several weeks ago when I watched this interview with Killer as he tries to spin what he did to the country in a way favorable to him. The audience of voters laughed in his face. They voted last night.

Anyone who didn't take a clue from that needs to work on their detective skills.

The people are like the person dying of thirst while walking through the desert. The Repubs offered them water. It was just a mirage, but the have been walking through sand for too long, they don't see another believable alternative, and, frankly, a mirage beats a decade of always being thirsty and never having any relief.

The people aren't stupid. And the Democrats need to learn to carry water.

The policies that enrich the fewest at the expense of the shrinking budgets of working class families. And the corporate media will help cheerlead theBushRepublicans to get what they want every step of the way.
