Explosions hit Fatah officials in Gaza Strip
Source: Aljazeera
A series of co-ordinated explosions have targeted the homes of several leaders of President Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah Party in the Gaza Strip, a party official has said.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility, but the explosions early on Friday occurred at a time of rising tensions with the rival Hamas movement.
Fayez Abu Eitta, a Fatah leader in Gaza's Jebaliya refugee camp, said no one was hurt in the near-simultaneous attacks. He said his car was destroyed and the homes and cars of two other Fatah officials in Gaza City were also damaged.
Hamas gained control of Gaza from Fatah after winning the 2007 elections. The rival parties have recently pledged to reconcile, but there are still deep differences.

(45,850 posts)Fatah spokesman Usama al-Qawasmi said that the explosions targeted the homes of Gaza Governor Abdullah al-Efranji, Fatah MP Faisal Abu Shahla, Revolutionary Council member Abu Juda al-Nahhal, Fatah spokesman Fayiz Abu Aita, and Fatah leaders Abd al-Rahman Hamad, Abd al-Jawad Ziyada, Sharif Abu Watfeh, Jamal Obeid, and Ziyad Matar.
Al-Qawasmi said the attacks "aimed to sabotage the commemoration of the anniversary of Arafat's death."
He and Fatah Central Committee member Hussein al-Sheikh blamed Hamas for the attacks.
But the Hamas movement in a statement condemned the incident, calling it a "criminal act."
It called upon security services in Gaza to investigate into the attacks and bring those responsible for it to justice.

(58,724 posts)TEL AVIVBombs exploded in the Gaza Strip early Friday, damaging fences and cars at the homes of senior members of the Fatah movement, which recently reached an agreement with Hamas to govern the Palestinian territory.
There were no immediate reports of casualties and no claim of responsibility for the attack, but Fatah spokesman Fayez Abu Aita immediately blamed Hamas for the bombings. The Islamist political and militant movement has ruled the enclave since 2007 and is a longtime rival of Hamas.

(3,746 posts)Ramallah (Palestinian Territories) (AFP) - Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas's Fatah movement said it held Islamist group Hamas responsible for a wave of bomb attacks against the homes of Fatah leaders in Gaza on Friday.
"The Fatah central committee condemns the crimes which took place this morning against its leaders and lays the responsiblity for these crimes upon Hamas," senior Fatah official Nasser al-Qidwa told a news conference in the West Bank city of Ramallah.
Hussein al-Sheikh, another member of the Fatah leadership, said he had "no doubt of the fact that Hamas bears the responsibility for what happened to Fatah leaders in Gaza."
At least 10 explosions hit houses and cars belonging to senior Fatah members but no casualties were reported.

(13,184 posts)Yes, Fatah and Hamas engaged in brutal infighting in 2007.
Yes, the Israelis hate the idea of the Palestinian unity government.
Why was Fatah so quick to blame Hamas? There are plenty of Salafist crazies running around there, too.

Fatah and Hamas have a solid history of murdering each other and purging their own ranks.
Congratulations on managing to despise all the groups in the Israeli/Palestinian conflict.
