Obama authorizes 1,500 more troops for Iraq

Source: Washington Post

President Barack Obama is authorizing the U.S. military to deploy up to 1,500 more troops to Iraq as part of the mission to combat the Islamic State group.

Obama is also asking Congress for more than $5 billion to help fund the fight.

The White House says the troops won’t serve in a combat role, but will train, advise and assist Iraqi military and Kurdish forces fighting IS.

Why can't he say - Fuck the Iraqi's -they can deal with it themselves.

My town voted down full day kindergarden last week because we dont have money for it.. Kids go for 2 hours a day and we can't make it 9 to 3:30 .. but Hey we need to spend another 5 Bil in Iraq NOW.

I was more surprised by the fact that he is sending 1,500 more soldiers than the fact that he was sending more soldiers. When I saw that he was sending more troops to Iraq I did not expect to hear that he was sending 1,000 or more.

What a disastrous decision invading Iraq was - more bloody and disastrous as we go on. All by Chickenhawks who did all they could to get out of serving in Vietnam. History, once time moves on, will not be kind to that half wit and his buddies.

This is his order, this is his fault and solely on him. He is the one sending us back to Iraq.....Last I checked he was still the President, and still the one ordering troops around, why are you trying to shift blame away from him?

Personally, I think the President has power but it is that of a high level employee rather than Chief Executive. I think the position is actually Senior Vice President of Marketing. Somewhere between being a Zaphod and the traditional reckoning of the job.

airplanes two nights ago. The Republicans get in charge, and what happens? I do not blame Obama for this. My gosh, look at his hair! He's getting grayer by the month, it seems. What other President has had so much opposition from the "other party" and a few from his own? I'm standing behind Obama all the way. The Dems did the country a disservice by not publicizing his many accomplishments. And, of course, our Corporate Media deserves much of the blame.

and for our troops in harm's way, again.

This is solely PBO's work. He is SOLELY ordering our forces back into Iraq, there is no Republican bad guys forcing him to do this or holding him hostage, this is ENTIRELY HIS FREAKING DOING and it is disgusting.

- There was actually a time when I thought that quote quite hyperbolic.

''In politics, nothing happens by accident. If it happened, you can bet it was planned that way.'' ~President Franklin Delano Roosevelt

''The primary aim of modern warfare is to use up the products of the machine without raising the general standard of living. In our own day they are not fighting against one another at all. The war is waged by each ruling group against its own subjects, and the object of the war is not to make or prevent conquests of territory, but to keep the structure of society intact.''

~George Orwell, 1984

''Every war results from the struggle for markets and spheres of influence, and every war is sold to the public by professional liars and totally sincere religious maniacs, as a Holy Crusade to save God and Goodness from Satan and Evil.''

~Robert Anton Wilson, from "Searching For Cosmic Intelligence"

''If armed force is a monopoly, it can not only be used to protect vested interests—it can also be made to turn a profit. Since Adams wrote the Law, manipulation of international conflict has become a fine art.''

~John Whiting, The Economics of Human Energy

''Let your life be a friction to stop the machine.'' ~ Henry David Thoreau
