George W. Bush decries raising taxes on 'the so-called rich'
By Alicia M. Cohn - 04/10/12 11:24 AM ET

Former President George W. Bush on Tuesday voiced opposition to raising taxes on “the so-called rich” in a rare public policy speech.

Bush, speaking in New York City at the George W. Bush Presidential Center’s conference on “Tax Policies For 4% Growth,” has mostly avoided weighing in publicly on current political debates since leaving office.

“I don’t think it’s good for our country to undermine our president and I don’t intend to do so,” Bush said. But he laid out his clear support for extending the payroll tax cut, also known as the Bush tax cuts, at the end of the year.

“I wish they weren’t called the ‘Bush tax cuts,’ ” he said, according to Forbes. “If they were called some other body's tax cuts, they're probably less likely to be raised.”

Yupers... No doubt about it, he was a real champion for the American Dream, middle class workers and poor people everywhere.

Of course, in order for the political layman to believe in such false dichotomies, they have to literally put on the blinders and forget about how things like NAFTA and all the big money, and big business deregulation etc., turned out to be a Trojan Horse death sentence for the working middle class and poor.

And as far as the never elected Gorge W. Bush goes.
He and all his buddies should be sitting in the darkest of dungeons,
and never allowed to see the light of day for the rest of their evil lives.

Dubya has been The Invisible Ex-President for years now. To have him slither out and defend tax cuts for the rich is fantastic. Now the GOP hopefuls will be forced to say "I Agree With President Bush."

After all these years, it's still amazing what GOP voters will swallow whole. That there are bad actors like GWB out there isn't a great surprise, but I'm still taken aback at the cues the simpleton GOP voters respond to. Show 'em a binary, all-black-and-white, John Wayne swaggering idiot, and they'll show you their new savior. The GOP and its voters are hopelessly flawed, and I do hope that more and more people are able to see that.

But hey, keep talking . . . and come out for an endorsement. Americans need a reminder why they should never, EVER vote Republican again.

The payroll tax cuts are not part of the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy. They are part of the 2nd stimulus passed by President Obama and go mostly to the middle class. They, too, are set to expire at the end of the year.

In the link Bush was on message about the Bush tax cuts mostly impacting small businesses that create most of the jobs. What he left out is that those small businesses would have to have profits exceeding $1 million to be impacted at all. It would then be an additional 5% but only on profits that exceed $1 million. I don't have the figures in front of me but my guess is that the majority of these "S" Corporations have less than $1 million in profits.
